Anthony Griffith: Could return to contention
Team news for Saturday's League One clash between Port Vale and Carlisle United at Vale Park.
Anthony Griffith has forced his way into the thinking of Port Vale manager Micky Adams ahead of the visit of Carlisle after making a dramatic recovery from a hip injury.
Griffith resumed training on Thursday to press his case for a recall after he was forced to sit out last Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Wolves. Adams will monitor the midfielder's fitness before deciding whether to put him straight back into the side.
While Griffith was able to train, Vale were more cautious about the fitness of Rob Taylor (knee) after he felt a niggle earlier this week.
Jack Grimmer will do some light training on Friday having been excused duty after playing for the Scotland Under-21 team on Wednesday night. Fellow defender Liam Chilvers underwent a minor groin operation last week and has not yet recovered.
Carlisle boss Graham Kavanagh is hoping James Berrett and Matty Robson return to contention for the game at Port Vale.
Midfielder Berrett has missed the last three games due to a hamstring injury, while left-sided defender/winger Robson sat out last week's goalless draw against Brentford with a back problem.
Defender Sean O'Hanlon remains doubtful after missing out last week through injury and on-loan Manchester United teenager Sam Byrne will be assessed after a hamstring strain forced him off midway through the second half.
Nacho Novo could make his first start for the club if Byrne misses out as the Cumbrians chase back-to-back league wins on the road.
