Gavin Tomlin: Could make return
Team news for Saturday's League One clash between Carlisle and Port Vale at Brunton Park.
Cumbrians boss Greg Abbott could hand debuts to new signings Leon McSweeney and Conor Townsend for the home game with Port Vale.
Former Leyton Orient utility man McSweeney and defender Townsend, on loan from Hull, could bolster the Cumbrians' shaky defence as Sean O'Hanlon continues his recovery from a groin injury.
Townsend will become the fifth player to start for Carlisle at left-back this season if selected, while centre-half Troy Archibald-Henville is expected to retain his place in the starting line-up after making his debut in last week's draw at Brentford.
But two other on-loan defenders, Mansfield's Paul Black (groin) and Manchester United's Reece James (thigh) are both sidelined as Carlisle chase their first win of the season.
Dan Jones remains an injury concern for Port Vale but Gavin Tomlin could come back into the reckoning for the trip to Carlisle.
Jones was forced off with a groin injury during the first half of Vale's league defeat to Wolves last Saturday causing the left-back to miss the victory over Bury in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, and he is likely to remain on the sidelines this weekend. However, striker Tomlin looks set to return to the squad following the knock that has kept him out recently.
Manager Micky Adams made five changes against the Shakers on Tuesday night, bringing Richard Duffy, Liam Chilvers, Chris Birchall, Louis Dodds and Ben Williamson into the side.
Adams admitted after the 2-1 first-round win that he did not know what team he would pick at Carlisle because a hard-working effort against Bury had compensated for some defensive frailties.
