James Vaughan: Scored the winner against Burnley

Huddersfield midfielder Oliver Norwood and striker James Vaughan each scored in a five-minute second-half spell to end Burnley's 12-match unbeaten run with a 2-1 victory in the Sky Bet Championship.

Burnley-born Norwood, who ran the show in the win against his home town club, struck a 30-yard volley on 50 minutes straight from a corner.

Adam Hammill's set-piece was drilled into the roof of the net by Norwood off the palms of keeper Tom Heaton, who seemed caught cold by the training ground move.

Vaughan won the points five minutes later from the spot after Michael Duff was controversially penalised for handball.

The veteran defender, 35, appeared to handle outside the right corner of the box under pressure from Vaughan. But a linesman called the penalty and Duff was booked for protesting.

Former Everton hit-man Vaughan stepped up to notch his 12th goal of the season.

It was nothing less than Huddersfield deserved after a first half in which they created chance after chance in a dominant display.

Burnley, who until today had only lost once, against Brighton, never got out the blocks against a side who did the double over them last term.

Northern Ireland international Norwood was the key figure. He was everywhere - and set up Vaughan for the move of the match.

Hammill, ex-Burnley striker Martin Paterson, Adam Clayton and youngster Tommy Smith were all involved in a flowing move on 35 minutes.

It ended with Norwood crossing for Vaughan, who somehow fired over when unmarked inside the six-yard box.

Paterson hit the post from a Norwood cross on 12 minutes while Vaughan just failed to connect with a diving header from another Norwood centre.

There were touching scenes on 13 minutes when the whole 17,930 crowd gave a standing ovation for Burnley fan Henry Tattersall, who died recently aged just 13. The teenager was found hanged in his bedroom earlier this month.

Danny Ings went closest for the Clarets in the first half with a volley wide from a tight angle after Kieran Trippier's long ball over the top.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche made a double half-time substitution, bringing on Brian Stock and Junior Stanislas for David Edgar and Michael Kightly.

But the change barely had time to take effect before the visitors were 2-0 down thanks to the controversial penalty.

A frantic closing spell then ensued.

Burnley had two penalty appeals turned down before Danny Ings forced Town keeper Alex Smithies into a fine save from a Stanislas cross.

Sam Vokes then scored from close range on 78 minutes, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside, with the striker booked for protesting.

Ings drilled in a consolation 16 minutes from time when Norwood's back header let in Vokes, who slipped a pass for the striker to net his 15th goal of the season.

Burnley had Duff sent off for a second yellow in the fourth minute of stoppage time for a foul on Vaughan to cap a miserable day for the Lancastrians.
