  1. Southampton 4 Newcastle 0. The hosts celebrate a convincing success, while Pardew and his Magpies are forced back to the drawing board.

  2. 90+4

Cisse runs the ball out for a throw. Southampton seeing out the final few seconds. They keep moving the ball well, inviting Chambers down the right. Haidara back with him to clear.

  3. 90+3

Both sides going through the motions now. Andre Marriner should stop it now. Newcastle will be wishing he would, putting them out of their misery.

  4. 90+2

Gallagher chasing another long ball over the top which has Newcastle in trouble. Elliot races out of his box to nod into the air and then run the ball out.

  5. 90+1

Dummett looking to push forward, but Southampton have numbers back. They aren't about to give up their clean sheet.

  6. 90

  7. 89

GOAL SOUTHAMPTON - RODRIGUEZ. All too easy for the Saints. One long ball over the top sends Rodriguez clean through. He cuts inside to set himself and then drills under Eliott from a tight angle.

  8. 88

Looks like both players should be okay to continue. Chambers has taken a bit of battering today, but he isn't prepared to see his afternoon ended prematurely.

  9. 87

Boruc able to take his time before drilling down field. Haidara and Chambers rise to challenge for the ball, and both go down holding their face. Physios back on.

  10. 86

De Jong takes the free-kick, but fires into the top of the wall. He was so far out that he didn't need to go so flat with the effort. He had plenty of room in which to get the ball up and down. Newcastle keep pressing and Shaw puts in a brave block to deny Gouffran from six yards out.

  11. 85

Cisse running through the middle, but Chambers able to keep pace in a foot race. Southampton pull men back and close the back door. Shaw and Schneiderlin then concede a free-kick 30 yards from goal.

  12. 84

Rodriguez denied once again by Elliot. Schneiderlin snaps into a tackle which frees the England man. His low drive from 25 yards out has to be pushed behind. Corner comes to nothing.

  13. 83

Southampton turn to their bench again. Lambert given a standing ovation from those at St Mary's as he makes way for Ramirez.

  14. 82

Slight lull in proceedings as the ball gets stuck in midfield. Game all but over with neither side looking to push in the closing stages.

  15. 81

Lovren rises highest to met the set-piece, but is running away from goal and floats a header back across the face of the target and wide of the far post.

  16. 80

Another free header for Rodriguez, with Lallana floating the ball to the back post. Santon unaware that he is someone behind him, but does just about enough to force a corner.

  17. 79

Anita with a clever pass into Cisse, who is forced out to the right. Cork across to concede a throw. Still not happening for Newcastle in the final third.

  18. 78

Newcastle make their final change of the afternoon. Sissoko has pulled up holding his thigh and will be replaced by Dummett. Doesn't look good for Sissoko as he makes a snapping signal to the bench.

  19. 77

Flag up against Lambert, who has won everything in the air today. Another break in play Elliot takes his time to hammer long. Cisse unable to win a throw.

  20. 76

Newcastle all over the place at times. Southampton always seem to have a man over. This could have been a mauling today - still might be. Haidara sees first yellow card for a foul on Ward-Prowse.
