  1. The final whistle goes and Man Utd have sealed a 2-0 victory over a spirited Crystal palace side to keep their hopes of reeling in the top four just about alive. It was Van Persie who made the breakthrough from the penalty spot after Evra was brought down by Chamakh, but the headlines will belong to Rooney after his excellent goal, which came just a day after he committed his future to the club.

  2. 90+1

Dann has a chance to grab a late lifeline for Palace from a free-kick out wide, but his glancing header travels just wide of De Gea's post.

  3. 90

Giggs flies in with a rash challenge to bring down a rampaging Ward, and duly receives a yellow card.

  4. 88

Fletcher enters the fray for the last couple of minutes as Fellaini is withdrawn.

  5. 87

Palace are still full of endeavour as a ball is whipped over towards Gayle at the back post and Smalling has to get up to make the headed clearance.

  6. 85

Palace make their final change of the game as Ince is replaced by Gayle for the closing minutes.

  7. 84

Puncheon embarks on a direct run down the right before Palace switch it over to the left, where Parr's cross is headed clear by Smalling.

  8. 82

Ince makes a bit of space for himself in the area but his shot is quickly closed down by Ferdinand.

  9. 80

A double change for Man Utd sees Giggs and Valencia come on for Januzaj and Van Persie.

  10. 79

Januzaj escapes the attentions of his defender to fire off a shot from a tight angle on the right, but Speroni gets down to make a comfortable save.

  11. 78

De Gea has had a fine game today and his handling is again secure as he holds on to a shot from Bolasie which was well hit from 20 yards and bounced on its way through a crowded area.

  12. 76

Man Utd are looking full of confidence now as they push forward in pursuit of a third goal.

  13. 74

Pulis shuffles his pack once again, bringing on Bolasie for Chamakh.

  14. 72

Palace are still showing plenty of spirit as they try to battle back.. They win a corner and Vidic will have to be careful that he does not concede a penalty as he grapples with Jedinak in the centre.

  15. 70

Van Persie almost grabs his second of the afternoon as he wriggles away from his defender before crashing a fierce drive against the crossbar from a tight angle.

  16. 68

GOAL! Rooney celebrates his new deal in style with a fantastic finish to put Man Utd 2-0 ahead. Evra digs in a cross and Rooney, apparently effortlessly, rotates his body into position and shows expert technique to volley a first-time effort into the top corner.

  17. 67

De Gea keeps Man Utd ahead with a wonderful save, as he leaps to his left at full stretch to turn behind a curling 20-yard shot from Jerome which had been creeping inside the post.

  18. 66

Palace's first change of the afternoon sees Jerome come on for Murray, who has performed wonderfully on his return from injury.

  19. 65

A dazzling moment from Mata nearly results in a second for Man Utd as he skips away from his defender with a nimble piece of footwork and then has the awareness to lay the ball back to Fellaini. It is a good effort from the midfielder from 20 yards but Speroni is equal to the challenge with a decent save.

  20. 64

The onus is on Palace to come forward now and that could play into United's hands. The Selhurst Park faithful remain in good voice as they try to spur the team on.
