Cheick Diabate: Came close to breaking the deadlock

Toulouse and Bordeaux were left languishing in mid-table as both teams played out a dour goalless draw in the derby de la Garonne.

Both sides' recent poor run of goalscoring form was highlighted at the Stade Alle Gabriel Bienes as Bordeaux struggled to find the breakthrough which would have seen them close the gap on a European place.

Toulouse's failure to win means they still have just one win in their last eight attempts and have won once once at home all year.

In a fairly subdued start to the game both sides struggled to make inroads in the final third until Bordeaux's Cheick Diabate managed to fashion a shooting chance after beating Jonathan Zebina but Aymen Abdennour got back well to counter both Diabate's effort and Henri Saivet's follow up.

Bordeaux seemed content to sit back but their counter-attacking resulted in the first shot on target when Nicolas Maurice-Belay tested Ali Ahamada with a 25-yard effort that lacked the power needed to trouble the keeper.

The hosts stepped up their game on the half hour mark and Franck Tabanou was gifted with their best chance so far. Regattin's superb pass found the midfield star in the area but his first-time volley flew over the bar.

Pavle Ninkov's near-post header from Etienne Didot's corner cleared Cedric Carrasso's bar soon after but that was the last of the first-half goalmouth action.

Eden Ben Basat's poor form since his move from Brest to Toulouse continued when the striker wasted a good opportunity early in the second half. The Israeli got in between two defenders before shooting but his effort failed to hit the target from a promising position.

Tabanou was also guilty of being wasteful on the hour mark when he kept himself onside to get on the end of another great Regattin pass but, when faced with just Carrasso, he missed the target completely.

Toulouse continued to press late on into the game and Ben Basat had another good opportunity after Didot had picked him out but his goalbound shot was cleared by Florian Marange.

Adrien Rabiot went even closer from the resulting corner with a near-post header but Carrasso made a magnificent reflex save to keep the scores level.
