Alessio Cerci: Had the best chance for Torino

Torino stretched their unbeaten run in Serie A to seven matches but did little to set pulses racing in a listless contest with Sampdoria at Stadio Olimpico.

The hosts impressed in a 2-2 draw at Inter Milan last time out but little of that fight was on display on Saturday, as they were cancelled out by a Samp side also on a high following last week's 6-0 win over Pescara.

The result does little for either side's bid to haul themselves out of mid-table obscurity.

Torino had the best of what chances there were in the first 45 minutes, as Alessio Cerci flashed a shot wide of the post midway through the half before Samp defender Daniele Gastaldello flicked the ball away from danger just as Kamil Glik looked to pull the trigger when the ball fell to him from a corner.

Glik then crossed for Paulo Barreto but his diving header skimmed the bar on its way out of play.

Torino ended a half they bossed with a counter-attack led by Cerci which eventually found Riccardo Meggiorini in space, but his left-footed shot from outside the box blazed over.

Citadin Eder spurned Samp's first chance of the match in the 47th minute when he failed to get a telling connection to Andrea Poli's cross.

Paulo Barreto's low shot in the 62nd minute drew a routine save from Sergio Romero, while the Sampdoria goalkeeper was also in the right place to keep out Glik's volley moments later.

Samp ended the match looking the most likely to break the stalemate, but Poli could only fire over after Emanuele Icardi was denied while Roberto Soriano's shot from distance was held by Jean Francois Gillet.
