Live Commentary

This article updates itself. There is no need to refresh this page. Last Updated at 12:30 pm, December 13th 2012

  1. FULL-TIME: European champions Chelsea will meet South American champions Corinthians in the final after dispatching Monterrey at the Nissan Stadium in Yokohama. Juan Mata opened the scoring following a delightful move and they came out firing in the second half, scoring a quick-fire double by Fernando Torres and an unfortunate own goal from Darvin Chavez. Aldo De Nigris scored a late consolation, but Rafa Benitez would have been delighted with his side's overall performance. They'll now hope to become Club World Cup champions for the first time in their history on Sunday.

  2. The 29-year-old Mexican International deservedly gets his goal deep in stoppage time and Monterrey get their consolation goal. There's a real lack of defending as De Nigris is given too much time and space to slot away his effort into the far corner. Bang goes my 3-0 prediction too!

  4. 90

Two added minutes of stoppage time!

  5. 88

Victor Moses concedes about his fourth free-kick after coming on as a substitute.

  6. 87

CLOSE!! Space opens up for Frank Lampard, but his toe poke flies just over the crossbar. How the Chelsea faithful would have loved to have seen that go in!

  7. 85

We're into the final five minutes now as Chelsea go in search of a fourth goal. They've looked impressive today!

  8. 83

SUBSTITUTIONS: Double change here for the Mexicans. Edgar Solis and Dario Carreno come onto the field for Severo Meza and Cesar Delgado, who has been one of their shining lights in this match.

  9. 81

Uefa president, Michel Platini is in the stands looking pretty cold, but I'm sure he's enjoyed this display by Chelsea today.

  10. 78

SUBSTITUTE: Fernando Torres is replaced by Victor Moses as Rafa Benitez makes his final change.

  11. 77

Chelsea are playing down the clock and allowing their opponents to keep possession.

  12. 76

Ferreira stands on Jose Maria Basanta's foot as he takes on a new role as a right winger.

  13. 75

Paulo Ferreira has literally only just come on and he's already in an advanced position.

  14. 74

Jesus Corona wraps his foot around the ball, but it's hopelessly high and wide.

  15. 73

SUBSTITUTION: Paulo Ferreira comes on for Juan Mata, who has done his job.

  16. 71

Certainly is Dan and he's settled in that midfield role like a duck to water.

  17. 70

Petr Cech is down to make a standar save after Azpilicueta was nudged off the ball too easily. Moments later Aldo De Nigris' touch lets him down.

  18. 68

Although Torres will be claiming the second goal of this match, it's likely to go down as a Sergio Perez own goal after the heavy deflection.

  19. 67

Brazilian champions Corinthians await Chelsea in Sunday's final and they've brought along somewhere in the region of 20,000 supporters from South America to Japan for this tournament. That's how seriously they're taking it!

  20. 65

Edin Hazard picks out Frank Lampard in space, about 25 yards from goal, but he shoot wide before giving the thumbs up to the Belgian.

  21. 64

Amazingly, Monterrey have had 52% possession in this match as Azpilicueta's cross is cleared away for a throw.

  22. 62

SUBSTITUTION: David Luiz is replaced to cheers, but the ovation for Lampard is even louder!

  23. 61

Frank Lampard is warming up and is ready to come on the field. He's back from recent his calf injury and will get half an hour of football here.

  24. 59

My 3-0 prediction is on as things stand, but I do feel there will be a few more goals for the European Champions in this game.

  25. 58

Goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco gets bored with the action and decides to bring the ball out of his area and distributes it quite well. Maybe they should put him upfront!

  26. 56

SUBSTITUTION: The first change of the match then and Ricardo Osorio replaces Sergio Perez for Monterrey.

  27. 54

Jesus Corona wins his side a corner and the inswinger is met by Aldo De Nigris at the back stick, but Petr Cech is there to make his first real save of note in this game.

  28. 52

That second half burst by Cheslea seems to have killed off the opposition. Surely no way back for Monterrey!?

  29. 50

Now it's David Luiz's turn to have a pop at goal, but Jonathan Orozco parries the ball to safety.

  30. 49

Eden Hazard just drifts past two defenders in the area, before his final touch lets him down.

  31. It's all over now for the Mexicans as Fernando Torres' wonderful cross with the outside of his boot is met by Juan Mata and his attempted cross is diverted into his own net by the unfortunate Chavez.

  32. 48

  33. What a strange goal! Half the stadium thought the Spaniard's effort had gone wide. Juan Mata was the creator as he picked out Torres, but his strike on goal takes a massive deflection before looping up into the air and beyond Jonathan Orozco.

  34. 47

  35. 46

Yesterday, Egypt's Al-Ahly put up a second half fight against Brazilian champions Corinthians, but eventually went down to a slender 1-0 defeat. Monterrey will take heart from their display and will surely give this a go as Chelsea get us underway.

If you'd like to air your views during the second half, email Raz...that's me! at or Tweet me: @RazMirza and I'll publish as many as I can.

  37. Chelsea are now 1/10 to claim victory with our friends @Skybet, who make Monterrey 25/1 and the draw 7/1 after 90 minutes. Chelsea to win 4-0 is 12/1, while a 4-1 scoreline is 18/1. Eden Hazard to score next is 8/1 while Oscar to score next is a 9/1 shout. Fernando Torres to score next and Chelsea to win 2-0 12/1. Juan Mata to score next and the Blues to win 3-0 14/1. My pre-match prediction of 3-0, which was priced at 9/1 is now 9/2. Head now to SKYBET to place your bets on this match.

  38. HALF-TIME: Chelsea are in charge against Monterrey at the International Stadium in Yokohama. David Luiz has been exceptional in his new midfield role while Juan Mata and Eden Hazard have looked sharp. They deservedly took the lead through Mata after 17 minutes following a superb move involving Oscar and Ashley Cole down the left. Jesus Corona and striker Aldo De Nigris have been the biggest threat for the Mexican outfit.

  39. 45+1

Cesar Delgado's right-wing cross is comfortably caught by Petr Cech.

  40. 45

Mata's delivery is headed away. We're going to have just the one added minute of stoppage time.

  41. 43

Petr Cech has not been called upon so far as Mata puts the pressure on to win his side a corner as we approach the break.

  42. 42

Japan is nine hours ahead and the Chelsea players were understtod to be suffering quite badly from jet lag, although judging from today's performance, they've clearly overcome it.

  43. 40

Spot on Emmanuel! Jesus Corona is enjoying his one-on-one battle with the full-back and is coming out on top so far.

  44. 39

Monterrey win a corner at the other end and they decide to play it short. The ball eventually comes into the box, but Aldo De Nigris heads wide of the target.

  45. 38

Edin Hazard's shot deflects off Darvin Chavez and is held by Jonathan Orozco.

  46. 36

Remember, goal-line technology is in use in this tournament, but hasn't been called upon so far.

  47. 35

The crowd noise picks up as Sergio Perez almost creeps into the box after a nice interchange of passing.

  48. 34

Although Torres was surrounded by defenders, he did have time to turn and get his shot away, but he was like a rabbit in the headlights.

  49. 32

Chelsea have had 52% possession up to now, although it seems a lot more as Eden Hazard picks out Ashley Cole in space again and he finds Fernando Torres in space, but the striker panics.

  50. 30

It's very comfortable for Chelsea and Luiz is running the show in the middle of the park as Mikel drives his right-footer wide of the mark.

  51. 28

Moments later, Cesar Delgado decides to have a crack at goal, but it's a little wild this time.

  52. 27

CHANCE FOR MONTERREY! Jesus Corona beats Azpilicueta very easily down the left but his cross is headed over by Aldo De Nigris.

  53. 25

The pitch does look heavy and a bit patchy in places.

  54. 24

Sadly for the Mexicans, they're missing the injured Chilie star Humberto Suazo - top scorer in the club's 67-year history. And it's showing.

  55. 22

Azpilicueta slips, but the Chelsea defender recovers to get back and win the ball.

  56. 21

The west Londoners are so confident in their football that even Ashley Cole decides to come forward and have a go at goal from 30 yards. Goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco makes the stop though.

  57. 19

Monterrey are struggling from set-pieces and both Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill go up in the box to meet an inswinging free-kick from the left, but the ball just drifts over the crossbar.

  58. Simple goal for Chelsea, who finally make the breakthrough in Japan as Oscar's brilliant backheel picks out Ashley Cole and his low cross is slotted into the back of the net by the Spaniard for his 11th goal of the season.

  59. 17

  60. 16

As we approach the 16th minute, chants of 'there's only one Di Matteo' rings around the International Stadium in Yokohama.

  61. 14

Cesar Azpilicueta struggles to keep the ball in play on the far side of the field and it's a throw to Monterrey.

  62. 13

TWO CHANCES! Firstly, Oscar almost creeps in after a dreadful back pass and then from the resulting corner, Branislav Ivanovic heads just over.

  63. 11

At the other end, Cesar Delgado's prodigious effort is deflected wide for a corner to the CONCACAF champions.

  64. 10

Sensational skills from Eden Hazard down the left as he strolls past a couple of defenders before finding Oscar in the box, but he fails to control the ball, which is unlike him.

  65. 8

The Mexican side now keep possession at the back with Jesus Corona and Darvin Chavez combining.

  66. 7

Luiz has started the game like a man possessed. He's relishing this midfield role and Chelsea are benefiting from it.

  67. 5

ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY! David Luiz plays a wonderful defence splitting pass to Eden Hazard, but his right-foot curler is inches wide of the far post.

  68. 4

Monterrey have ahrdly had a touch of the ball in these opening couple of minutes as Fernando Torres almost meets the ball with his head.

  69. 3

GOOD EFFORT! There is a lack of feel about the start of this game, but Oscar finds David Luiz in space and the defender - in his ndew midfield role fires his long-range effort over the crossbar.

  70. 2

Chelsea are looking to make it three-straight wins under Benitez and they've made a confident start, keeping the ball well.

  71. 1

Here we go then. Monterrey are wearing red shirts and white shorts, while Chelsea are in their familiar all blue kit.

  72. 10:29

The teams are out and we're ready for kick-off. Sdaly, there's not much of a turn out at the at International Stadium in Yokohama.

  73. Chelsea are 4/9 to claim victory with our friends @Skybet, who make Monterrey 13/2 and the draw 100/30. Fernando Torres to score two or more goals (90 minutes only) is worth a bet at 11/2 while Oscar to score first and either Chelsea to win 2-0 or 2-1 is a 20/1 shout. Meanwhile, David Luiz is a 14/1 shot to score first. I'm hedging my bets and going for an easy Chelsea win this morning, despite the jet lag- 3-0, which is priced at 9/1. Head now to SKYBET to place your bets on this match.

  74. 09:50

David Luiz is expected to start in midfield for the first time as Interim manager Rafael Benitez picks five defenders for the European champions' tournament opener in Yokohama, suggesting Luiz will line up alongside John Obi Mikel.John Obi Mikel and Oscar are also recalled against the CONCACAF champions, who are unchanged from their quarter-final win over Ulsan Hyundai.

  75. MONTERREY: Orozco, Meza, Chavez, Mier, Perez, Basanta, Ayovi, Corona, Cardozo, Delgado, De Nigris.
