Emmanuel Mayuka: Confident ahead of Burkina Faso meeting

Emmanuel Mayuka insists Zambia are not feeling any pressure heading into their African Nations Cup clash with Burkina Faso.

Anything other than victory could see defending champions Zambia eliminated.

Herve Renard's side, who stunned the Ivory Coast to win their first continental crown last year, are joint second in Group C going into the final round of fixtures with two points, the same as Nigeria and two few than leaders Burkina Faso.

A draw might not be enough for Chipolopolo in Nelspruit, depending on how Nigeria get on against bottom side Ethiopia in the other match, but Mayuka says they are not getting carried with what may or may not happen.

The Southampton striker said in the Times of Zambia: "What pressure? It is just that people have been talking a lot but ourselves we are not feeling that pressure as we are taking each game as it comes."

Zambia goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene insists the mood in the squad is good and, rather than worrying about just getting through, is hoping to secure top spot in the group.

"The spirit in camp is high and all the players are focused on winning the match against Burkina Faso. We are champions and would not give up easily," he said.

Burkina Faso know a point would secure their berth in the quarter-final thanks to their 4-0 triumph over Ethiopia last time out.

That was the Stallions' first victory in the finals since they finished fourth on home soil in 1998 and coach Paul Put feels the heat is off his side going into Tuesday's match having already reached their first target for the tournament.

"Our first aim arriving here was to do better than in previous Nations Cups. We've already achieved that. That has helped free the players' minds, it was good for our confidence," said the Belgian, who nevertheless insists his side are still determined to go further.

"But we still have to qualify so we are keeping our feet on the ground," he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"We need a point against Zambia tomorrow. It won't be easy against the champions, but we will play with our hearts. There is more pressure on Zambia than us. It won't be an easy game but the players have a chance to write history."
