Patrice Carteron: Urged his team to focus
Mali coach Patrice Carteron urged his team to banish the memory of Thursday's 1-0 defeat against Ghana ahead of Monday's winner-takes-all African Nations Cup Group B showdown with DR Congo in Durban.
The Eagles head into their final pool encounter in second spot - one point behind Ghana and one clear of tomorrow's opponents - and could reach the quarter-finals with a draw against DR Congo, if the Black Stars were to beat Niger.
And Carteron, who was less than satisfied with his team's performance against Ghana, called on his players to quickly move on and focus.
Speaking after the match in Port Elizabeth, he said: "I was convinced that this game would take place in difficult conditions. I was very upset with my players in the first half, but in the second half they were able to control the situation.
"But I think we will quickly forget this defeat. We must focus on the next match against DR Congo on Monday."
Captain Seydou Keita pressed home the point, adding: "We have no choice but to beat DR Congo if we want to continue our African Nations Cup adventure. To do this, we will rest to prepare for the decisive match."
DR Congo coach Claude LeRoy, whose side have drawn their two games so far, was also keen to forget about Thursday's exploits - a 0-0 draw with Niger.
"We made too many mistakes, including tactical mistakes, although I did not like the way the Niger players were rolling on the ground by the end," he said.
"But there is still a game to play. It will be a great game, even though Mali will qualify with a draw."
