Claude Le Roy: Believes the Niger game is 'do or die'
DR Congo boss Claude Le Roy was in no mood to play down Thursday's African Nations Cup Group B clash against Niger, describing the game as "do or die" for his side.
DR Congo go into the game on the back of a 2-2 draw in their opening match with Ghana. Le Roy's side were two goals down, but fought back with a Tresor Mputu strike before forward Dieumerci Mbokani converted from the spot.
Le Roy was pleased with his side's fighting spirit and is looking for more of the same at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
"I am impressed with the character and courage we showed against Ghana, but the Niger game is a do or die for us," he said. "We have to give it our best and win the match because this is not an easy group."
Niger went down 1-0 to Mali in their opener, meaning a positive result against DR Congo is vital if they are to progress.
Their coach Gernot Rohr has no doubts about how tough Thursday's match will be.
"We tried our best against a top team like Mali and against DR Congo on Thursday it will be a very difficult game," Rohr said.
It is a feeling echoed by defender Mohamed Chicoto, who says his team will give their all to the end.
"It will be a very difficult game against DR Congo, but as long as we have a chance to make it past the first round we will not give up," he said.
