Mame Biram Diouf celebrates his goal

Hannover bounced back from their mauling in Munich with a deserved 2-0 win at home to struggling Greuther Furth in the Bundesliga on Tuesday night.

Mame Biram Diouf opened the scoring early on and Mario Eggimann headed a second midway through the second half as the hosts put Saturday's 5-0 defeat by Bayern Munich behind them.

The win lifted Mirko Slomka's men up to sixth, while their opponents remained second bottom.

Edgar Prib was the first man to threaten as the Furth midfielder tried his luck from range, but goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler was equal to it.

Instead Diouf put the hosts ahead in the fifth minute.

Max Grun kept out but could not hold Didier Ya Konan's powerful shot from just inside the area and the Senegal striker was in the right place and in enough space to knock home the rebound.

Furth were enjoying the greater share of possession, but without posing a goal threat.

Diouf, in contrast, looked dangerous and he beat four men before setting up Sergio Pinto, who could only shoot well off target.

And the former Blackburn frontman should have doubled the hosts' lead three minutes into the second half.

His first effort was blocked by Grun, he then headed the rebound against the bar and finally failed to connect with an attempted overhead kick.

At the other end Zieler showed superb reactions to push away a Prib shot from close range.

Eggimann headed a free-kick narrowly past the post and Diouf had a goal ruled out for offside as Hannover continued to create chances.

And the second goal arrived in the 69th minute as Swiss defender Eggiman headed home from inside the six-yard box following a ball in from Jan Schlaudraff.

And from there they had little problem seeing out the win.
