Paul Lambert: Back in familiar surroundings and dreaming of cup glory

Paul Lambert will be back at Carrow Road on Tuesday as Aston Villa face Norwich City in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals.

Dreams of Wembley can begin in earnest at this stage of the competition, with just three games standing between eight hopefuls and major silverware.

It has been over 25 years since Norwich last lifted a trophy and they are desperate to give themselves a shot at ending that barren run.

Victories over Scunthorpe United, Doncaster Rovers and an impressive showing against Tottenham Hotspur in the last round have carried the Canaries this far.

They will come up against a familiar face in the last eight, with former boss Lambert set to return to Norfolk for the first time since leaving for Villa over the summer.

The Scot enjoyed three successful years with Norwich, but is now plotting their demise and will hope that his extensive knowledge of the Canaries works in Villa's favour.

Villa have seen off Tranmere Rovers, reigning Premier League champions Manchester City and Swindon Town to make it this far, and will be determined to ensure their cup run continues.

Norwich will welcome defender Michael Turner back into their squad in midweek.

Turner has missed the last four games but returns from a shoulder problem in time for the match at Carrow Road, although Alexander Tettey (thigh) remains sidelined and Ryan Bennett is also unavailable through an unspecified injury.

Steven Whittaker (hip) and Wes Hoolahan (groin) are doubts for Chris Hughton's side with John Ruddy (thigh) and Harry Kane (metatarsal) definitely missing.

Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood will be cup-tied at Carrow Road.

Westwood had already played in the competition for his previous club Crewe this season before making the move to Villa in late August.

Karim El Ahmadi is the obvious contender to replace Westwood. Skipper and centre-back Ron Vlaar remains a doubt with a calf problem which has ruled him out of the last three games.
