  1. Many thanks for joining me, and give me a follow on Twitter if you have enjoyed my witterings.

  2. And that's full time. Bordeaux win at a relative canter, and Newcastle finish as runners up in Group D. A fairly drab affair is settled by two smart finishes from Cheick Diabate, one with head and one left foot.

  3. 90+1

As we near the final whistle, I must mention that Henri Saivet and Fahid Ben Khalfallah have been excellent, and the latter has a late chance which he pulls wide

  4. 90

We will have two additional minutes as Bordeaux simply stroke the ball around

  5. 89

Newcastle win a late corner, and perhaps a final chance to register a goal this evening

  6. 87

Double goalscorer Diabate is removed, to be replaced by Sako

  7. 86

Cisse's first action is to be ruled offside. I have to say that the assistant referees have got a few calls wrong tonight, and this is another example

  8. 84

The game is now slowing down as both sides appreciate that the contest is over. Can Newcastle gain a consolation? Abeid heads wide as they at least search.

  9. 82

Ranger fires over from out wide. The finish is wild, but it was at least an expert turn on the ball.

  10. 80

Newcastle are bringing on Papiss Cisse for Ameobi, which seems a risk given the state of the game and pitch. Let's hope he doesn't pick up an injury.

  11. 79

Newcastle again enjoying a degree of pressure, but it will be too late to make any significant difference

  12. 77

Smart save from Elliot from Ben Khalfallah. The goalkeeper has done well tonight despite conceding twice

  13. 75

The game now has a fairly pedestrain fifteen minutes left, as the game (and group) is settled. On this second half performance, Newcastle can feel a little hard done to, but Bordeaux have bee nthe better side

  14. 73

Coloccini is now on for Newcastle, replacing Mike Williamson

  15. 73

It's a good finish from the Malian through on goal, but Newcastle's high line has cost them

  16. 72

2-0 to Bordeaux, Diabate doubling his goal tally and winning the group for Bordeaux

  17. 71

Fabrizio Coloccini will indeed be coming on for Newcastle, which would seem a strange move with the risk of injury

  18. 68

Tavernier is booked for a late tackle on Saivet

  19. 67

Marveaux has a strike blocked before Anita fires well wide. It looks as if Newcastle may well be bringing on their club captain

  20. 65

The game is going through a scrappy period as both sides concede possession with far too much regularity

  21. 64

Nile Ranger is slightly struggling in this game. The 'bad boy' striker is making his first start in a while and will want to have impressed more.

  22. 61

Newcastle need to keep this threat going, but their final ball is still causing them an issue, too often allowing moves to break down

  23. 58

The second half has been markedly better than the first, which is a very pleasant thing to type

  24. 57

Fine effort from Sertic for Bordeaux, who fires a shot just wide from 30 yards which grazes the outside of the post. Wonderful strike

  25. 56

Diabate fires wide after being played through by Saivet, the striker falling away has he hits the ball fairly woefully wide of the near post

  26. 54

Just wide from Abeid. Olimpa leaves the ball to go wide, but it is only inches from troubling the far post from 20 yards

  27. 53

More evidence that Newcastle have improved though, which is pleasing

  28. 52

Chance for Newcastle, and Ameobi forces a fine reflex save from Olimpa with his feet. Corner

  29. 51

Actually, this is a lot brighter from the away side. Nothing clear-cut, but they are at least dominating possession in the first minutes of this second period. The final ball still needs to worked on though.

  30. 48

Newcastle, to their credit, have started brighter in this second period, at least attempting to create some attacking flency

  31. 47

Goal kick for Bordeaux as Ameobi fails to hit the target under close supervision from defender and goalkeeper

  32. 46

Newcastle will presumably switch to a 4-4-2 with Anita slotting into midfield.

  33. Underway in the second half

  34. Newcastle making a change, Vurnon Anita coming on for Sammy Ameobi

  35. Join me again in 15 minutes when we will bring you what will be, let's hope, a half in which the English side can show a little more attacking prowess

  36. And that's half time. A Diabate goal separates the sides after a half without any real edge, and Newcastle have shown little to suggest that they consider top spot in the group of any real importance

  37. 45

Newcastle are now 16/1 with Sky Bet to win the game having fallen behind in France, but the Magpies are decent value at 5/1 to come away with a draw. Meanwhile, former Manchester United player David Bellion is 8/1 to score the next goal.

  38. 43

There is a yellow card for Mike Williamson, awarded after the move broke down for holding an attacker

  39. 42

Finally a move from Newcastle, Sammy Ameobi turning smartly on half way before passing to his brother, who is eventually crowded out. Better

  40. 41

Newcastle are really struggling to create a spark of invention here. Possession enjoyed in defense once again is wasted in the opposition half

  41. 39

One enjoyablt thing to watch is the young left winger for Bordeaux Henri Saivet. He's is known to many scouts as a real starlet of European football. One-to-watch.

  42. 37

At the moment you have to fee lfor the 1200 travelling members of the Toon Army. Not an awful lot to cheer.

  43. 35

Marveaux has started to try and get onto the ball, and his creativity is what Newcastle need at the moment. The away side look a little flat

  44. 33

The goal should open up the game, although with Newcastle knowing that they now need to score twice to effect any change in the group, will they attempt to get back into the game?

  45. 31

The game did need a goal, but Newcastle will still feel that their marking should have been tighter. Bordeaux deserve the lead

  46. 30

Nothing the goalkeeper could do, but far too much space for Diabate to head home

  47. 29

1-0 Bordeaux. A cross from the left hand side and Diabate heads into Elliot' near post.

  48. 27

Bordeaux now enjoying a spell of comfortable possession, lacking probe and invention

  49. 25

Fine work from Tavernier, but his cross is blocked by the first man. Story of the half, I'm afraid

  50. 23

Nile Ranger fouls when tracking back. From the free kick out wide, Shola Ameobi clears

  51. 22

Halfway through the first half. The chances spurned have all been for the home side, with Newcastle failing to make much impact. It does have the feel of a dead rubber about it, unfortunately

  52. 20

Newcastle struggling slightly in the final third, Bordeaux happy to keep numbers in defense to ward of attacks with relative ease

  53. 18

Another fine save from Elliot, this time from Bellion, a fantastic reaction diving low to his left.

  54. 17

The final ball so far has not been up to scratch from both teams, but they may have an excuse with the surface

  55. 15

Marveaux collects the ball 30 yards out, but it fires well wide. The Frenchman was impressive as a sub against Wigan on Monday

  56. 14

Newcastle awarded a free kick 30 yards out. After a slow start, the work rate has greatly improved from the English side

  57. 13

James Tavernier, the most inexperienced player in the Newcastle squad, crosses nicely from the right but the Bordeaux defense does well to clear

  58. 11

Ben Khalfallah with a strike from 25 yards, but Elliot does well to parry away. Impressive start from the Newcastle goalkeeper

  59. 10

Good work from Sammy Ameobi down the left hand side, but his cross is easily cleared

  60. 9

Shola Ameobi wins a free kick for Newcastle. From the set piece, Nile Ranger wins a second corner

  61. 7

From a free kick out wide Newcastle clear. The pitch really is shiocking

  62. 5

The pitch is in fairly poor nick, the ball not bouncing particularly truly

  63. 4

Newcastle's first attack and Nile Ranger challenges the goalkeeper, earning an undeserved corner. A push spotted from the set piece

  64. 3

It was Saivet with the shot, and a brilliant piece of goalkeeping

  65. 2

Wonderful block from Shane Ferguson after a save from Rob Elliot to keep Newcastle on level terms

  66. 2

We have our first corner, Shola Ameobi blocking a cross from the right

  67. 1

Bordeaux knocking the ball around with confidence early on here

  68. Bordeaux get us underway...

  69. Just before we get underway, important to not that ex-Sunderland striker David Bellion features. Newcastle fans could do without him scoring

  70. The ground is fairly sparsely populated for the game, but hopefully that doesn't reflect on the quality of the game

  71. A reminder to get in touch with me via Twitter @danielstorey85 to let me know your thoughts and predictions.

  72. Fifteen minutes until kick off, and I can exclusively reveal that there are fair number of gloves out at the Stade Chaban Delmas. It looks freezing out there

  73. I might as well chuck my two-penneth into the ring. I think it will be a low scoring affair, with Bordeaux nicking it 1-0 or a 1-1 draw. So avoid those bets accordingly!

  74. Bordeaux, for their part, have been unstoppable at home in the Europa League, and their only defeat came at St James' Park in October. They sit sixth in Ligue 1, but have only taken one point from their last two games.

  75. Newcastle got an overdue victory against Wigan on Monday but have saved some of their better performances this season for Europe's secondary showpiece competition, including a 3-0 home demolition of their French opponents. They have lost just one of their last 15 in Europe

  76. According to those official team sheets, Bordeaux have only named five substitutes from a possible seven, which is Football Manager behaviour. We'll keep you updated if they have, in fact, filled their bench.

  77. Newcastle: Elliot; Tavernier, Williamson, Perch, Ferguson; Bigirimana, Abeid; Ranger, Marveaux, Sa Ameobi, Sh Ameobi Subs: Krul, Coloccini, Simpson, Anita, Amalfitano, Campbell, Cisse

  78. Bordeaux: Olimpa - Chalme, Planus, Marange, Poundje - Ben Khalfallah, Sertic, Poko, Saivet - Bellion, Diabate Subs: Keita, Sane, Nguemo, Maurice-Belay, Sako

  81. Some people might label this as a dead rubber, but it's nothing of the sort. If Newcastle can win this early evening they will top Group D and therefore potentially avoid some of the big names entering the competition.
