Eugenio Togni: Netted the winner

Eugenio Togni's first-ever Serie A goal lifted Pescara out of the relegation zone in thrilling circumstances at the Stadio Adriatico.

Togni scored with the last kick of the game deep in stoppage time to earn the Delfini a 2-1 win over Catania - and the Pescara forward could not hold back the tears of joy at the final whistle.

Mervan Celik gave Pescara a 23rd-minute lead, but Pablo Barrientos levelled soon after before the dramatic conclusion.

The wet weather and early kick-off on a working day may have kept many fans away from the Stadio Adriatico but they missed an open and entertaining game between two sides who wanted the points for different reasons.

Pescara needed a win to get out of the bottom three while three points for Catania would have taken them above AC Milan into seventh place.

And they had the first chance in the 12th minute with Lucas breaking, but finding only the far post after opting to shoot when he realised none of his team mates had joined him in attack.

The home side took the lead in the 23rd minute with Celik providing a cool side-foot finish low into the bottom left-hand corner after being ignored by the Catania defence.

Catania's equaliser in the 36th minute was similar with Barrientos this time left totally alone by the Pescara defence.

His finish was equally composed with Pescara goalkeeper Mattia Perin in the Pescara goal motionless as the ball nestled in the back of his net.

Pescara emerged for the second half with even more motivation than in the first and Celik's shot from 20 yards brought a good save out of Mariano Andujar.

Three minutes later, Perin made a similarly good save with Giuseppe Marchese's goal in the rebound ruled out for offside.

Perin did well to touch Giuseppe Bellusci's deflected shot over the crossbar in the 85th minute as the chances continued to arrive.

Gianluca Caprari should have won the game for Pescara in the 89th minute when he met a low ball from Marco Capuano just five yards from goal, but he was put off enough by Andujar and shot wide.

There was still time for an exciting twist in the end, though, with Togni netting with the last kick of the game, a direct free-kick curled over the wall and in from 25 yards, sparking celebrations and tears from Togni.
