Monkhouse: Sidelined for Pools

Team news for Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy second-round tie between

Hartlepool and Bradford at Victoria Park (kick-off 7.30pm).

Hartlepool midfielder Andy Monkhouse has been ruled out.

Monkhouse was forced out of Saturday's defeat at Crewe after just eight minutes with an ankle injury and replaced by defender Evan Horwood.

Simon Walton has missed out in recent weeks due to an ankle injury, but could return to contention after Saturday's game came a little too early for him.

Manager Neale Cooper, who has no other new injury or suspension worries, has suggested he could rest several other players such as veteran forward Steve Howard and midfielder Paul Murray, but on-loan Sunderland striker Ryan Noble is eligible.

Fellow forward James Poole, who made way for Noble at the weekend, and teenager Luke James are hoping to return to the side, while skipper Sam Collins, who has started the last two games on the substitutes' bench, is also pushing for a recall.

Cooper's side are chasing their first win in eight matches having taken only two points from their last seven league games.

Bradford midfielder Ritchie Jones is expected to make his first appearance of the season at his former stomping ground.

Jones, who damaged ankle ligaments during the summer, returned to the bench in the recent goalless draw at Rochdale and is now looking to build his match fitness.

Manager Phil Parkinson, who has no new injury or suspension worries, has also hinted there could be recalls for striker Alan Connell and defender Stephen Darby. The pair last appeared in City's starting line-up in the Capital One Cup win over Burton last month.

Goalkeeper Matt Duke may return in place of Jon McLaughlin, while winger Garry Thompson is hoping to play a bigger role.

Midfielder Kyel Reid remains sidelined and will be out for another six weeks due to a groin injury sustained against Rochdale.

The Bantams beat Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield and Sheffield United - all on penalties - in last season's competition on their way to the northern area semi-finals.
