Gordon Strachan: Taking the Scotland helm for the first time against Estonia

Gordon Strachan takes charge of Scotland for the first time on Wednesday night as Estonia visit Pittodrie for an international friendly.

Former Celtic manager Strachan was handed the reins last month following the dismissal of Craig Levein in November, and has spoken of his pride at fulfilling a lifelong ambition.

Strachan also recognises that he faces a challenge to push the team forward and he will be looking to make a winning start in midweek, ahead of two World Cup qualifiers next month against Wales and Serbia.

Scotland are currently bottom of Group B after collecting just two points from their opening four games, a run of form which cost Levein his job, so the clash with Estonia represents a chance for everyone in the squad to impress Strachan and show that they deserve further opportunities.

Celtic midfielder Scott Brown will captain Scotland in Aberdeen, with Darren Fletcher still absent, Gary Caldwell returning to Wigan due to injury and Kenny Miller unlikely to start.

Birmingham's Chris Burke is being tipped to start alongside Brown in midfield, having not been capped since 2006.

With Caldwell out and fellow defender Grant Hanley having left the camp due to injury, Strachan must choose between Christophe Berra, Andy Webster and Charlie Mulgrew at centre-back.

James Forrest and Ross McCormack (illness) have also withdrawn from the squad.

For Estonia, Motherwell striker Henrik Ojamaa is expected to lead the line.

Tarmo Ruutli's side have made a disappointing start to their World Cup qualification campaign, having lost three of their four games in Group D.
