Brendan Rodgers: Wants the likes of Jordan Henderson and Joe Cole to impress in Russia

Liverpool continue their quest to qualify from the tightly-contested Group A in the Europa League when they travel to Russia to take on Anzhi Makhachkala.

At the midway point in the group stages, only three points separate the Anfield club at the top of the standings and Young Boys at the bottom.

Any dropped points against Anzhi, who were defeated on Merseyside by Stewart Downing's goal on Matchday Three, could therefore prove costly for Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers has decided regardless to leave his stars behind for the long trip to Russia, as he instead priorities Sunday's Premier League game at Chelsea.

Liverpool have left behind Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Joe Allen, Nuri Sahin, Daniel Agger, Jose Reina, Glen Johnson, Raheem Sterling and Jose Enrique.

Youngsters Stephen Sama, Adam Morgan and Conor Coady have been called into the squad while Brendan Rodgers also wants the likes of Joe Cole and Jordan Henderson to impress.

But three-time winners of the competition, under its former name of the UEFA Cup, Liverpool will take on Anzhi, who sit second in the Russian league, in confident mood.

The English club have lost just twice in eight meetings with Russian opponents ahead of their outing in Moscow, where Guus Hiddink's Anzhi are playing their home games.

Anzhi, though, have won their last four home European games without conceding a goal in the process.

Samuel Eto'o, Yuri Zhirkov and Christopher Samba are again familiar names in the Anzhi squad.

Defensive midfielder Jucilei is fit following injury and could be included by boss Guus Hiddink.Samuel Eto'o, Yuri Zhirkov and Christopher Samba are again familiar names in the Anzhi squad.
