Darren Fletcher and Paul Scholes miss Manchester United's trip to Braga

Darren Fletcher and Paul Scholes were missing from Manchester United's travelling party for their Champions League Group H clash with Braga.

The pair did not make the trip as Sir Alex Ferguson's team set off for a game in Group H which can book their place in the knockout stages with a victory. Following wins over Galatasaray, Cluj and, at Old Trafford, Braga, United will progress to the last 16 with two games to spare if they pick up another three points on Wednesday night. But Braga's recent record against English teams in Portugal is impressive and so Ferguson will know it will not be a straightforward night. Braga did not concede a goal in posting victories over Birmingham City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Portsmouth during the past five years. And so coach Jose Peseiro will have the perfect motivation with which to supply his players as they look ahead to hosting United for the first time in their history. Braga currently have three points in the group to leave them sitting third between second-placed Cluj and Galatasaray in what looks like a three-way fight for the runners-up spot.Douglao (thigh) returned to action at the weekend after missing Braga's last three matches in all competitions. But Paulo Vinicius, Ismaily, Paulo Cesar, Carlao and Djamal were all sidelined through injury. Fletcher did not take part in the section of training which was open to cameras at Carrington earlier on Tuesday, and while Scholes had been involved in the session, neither was included in the squad list for the trip to Portugal posted on United's website on Tuesday afternoon. Fellow midfielder Nick Powell appeared to have sat out on Tuesday morning but was included in the list, along with defender Chris Smalling, who has been making progress in training in his rehabilitation from a broken metatarsal and may be in line for his first appearance of the season in Wednesday's game. Phil Jones (back and knee), Nemanja Vidic and Shinji Kagawa (both knee) all miss out.
