Cyeil Thereau celebrates his goal for Chievo
Two late goals edged Pescara closer to relegation and boosted Chievo's hopes of staying in Serie A as the visitors won 2-0 at the Stadio Adriatico.
In a combative game, Chievo withstood Pescara's attacks before striking late on to give them a 10-point cushion over the top three.
Pescara, in contrast, were left five points adrift at the bottom of the table.
Adrian Stoian scored the first goal in the 87th minute and Cyril Thereau wrapped up the win in stoppage time as the Flying Donkeys took all three points.
Thereau may have had to wait more than 90 minutes to score, but it was not for the lack of trying.
He was the visitors' dangerman as Chievo punctuated Pescara's possession and attacks with rare but effective forays, the first of which ended with the French striker shooting straight at Ivan Pellizoli in the 10th minute.
Isaac Cofie went closer to open the scoring when he rattled the bar after receiving the ball from Alberto Paloschi.
Pescara were fighting for their lives, sometimes going a bit too far, resulting in four yellow cards.
Chievo were keeping their cool, but Thereau again missed the target when well placed with a header just before the break.
It was the same story in the second half, with the home side clearly wanting to make the breakthrough, but lacking the final ball or touch.
Chievo showed them how it should be done in the 87th minute when Stoian picked up the ball in midfield and headed straight for the area before shifting on to his right foot and finding a way past Pelizzoli.
The goal silenced the home fans and also killed off Pescara's remaining belief.
Five minutes later, Thereau got the goal he had been looking for all game with a diagonal shot after getting on to Luciano's long ball.
