Bologna and Genoa ended the Serie A season with a point apiece but failed to score any goals at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.

There were plenty of chances in the first half with the home team hitting the woodwork, but the action slowly ebbed away with both sides happy enough to take a point on the final day of the season.

Both clubs end their campaigns in the bottom half of the table, a little too close to the bottom three than they would have expected or hoped to be nine months ago.

Although both teams had already fulfilled their objectives for the season, with differing degrees of satisfaction, there was still enough action in what at first glance could seem like a tame goalless draw.

Marco Borriello had the first effort on goal in the seventh minute which Dejan Stojanovic was only able to collect at the second attempt.

Antonio Floro Flores was next to test the Bologna goalkeeper, who responded well to turn his free-kick behind for a corner in the 24th minute.

A minute later, Bologna went even closer when Alessandro Diamanti set up Panagiotis Kone, who controlled the ball on his chest before striking it on the volley, but the crossbar came to the rescue for Genoa goalkeeper Antonio Donnarumma.

Donnarumma was tested by Lazaros Christodoulopoulos early in the second half, choosing to punch the ball clear and getting away with it as Kone sent the loose ball over the crossbar.

Bologna were improving and Diamanti shot just wide in the 64th minute after seeing his appeals for a penalty turned down by the referee.

Tensions flared going into the final quarter of the game with Borriello and Davide Moscardelli having to be separated by their team-mates.

And the game ended with Diamanti needing treatment for a wrist injury after he fell badly.
