Torino guaranteed Serie A safety with a 1-1 draw at Chievo on Sunday afternoon.

Torino guaranteed Serie A safety with a 1-1 draw at Chievo on Sunday. Cyril Thereau put the hosts in front after 10 minutes, but Alessio Cerci equalised with a penalty only nine minutes later. As it turned out, they could have afforded to lose, with Palermo's defeat to Udinese condemning them to the drop. Chievo started brightly and Thereau fired over the top from distance before opening the scoring. Felipe Seymour's excellent ball into the area picked out the striker, who tapped home from close range. Torino came right back, though, Migjen Basha bringing a fine save out of Christian Puggioni before the leveller arrived a minute later. Dario Dainelli fouled Angelo Ogbonna inside the area and Cerci stepped up to slide the penalty low into the right corner. The visitors had the bit between their teeth now and Cerci was looking especially dangerous. He fired inches wide of the left post before sending in another shot which brushed the other upright with Puggioni well beaten. At the other end, Nicolas Frey's long ball picked out Thereau, whose shot was off target. Torino had the first chance of the second half as Matteo Darmian crossed from the right and Paulo Barreto headed over. Gennaro Sardo tested Torino goalkeeper Jean Francois Gillet from long range, but the away side continued to look more threatening. Cerci failed to beat Puggioni when one-on-one with the keeper, who then produced a fine stop to keep out Matteo Brighi's effort from the edge of the area. Thereau fired high for Chievo, but Torino had the last chance with Basha also shooting over.
