Sampdoria lost their sixth game in a row to increase the pressure on coach Ciro Ferrara with a 2-1 reverse at home to Atalanta. Giacomo Bonaventura gave the visitors the lead in the second minute, but Enzo Maresca levelled for the Blucerchiati early in the second half. Giuseppe De Luca put the Bergamese side in front again in the 76th minute and they withstood a late rally from Samp to take all three points at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. A run of five consecutive defeats had increased the pressure on Ferrara, who took his side into a training camp following the midweek defeat to Inter Milan. The last thing he needed, then, was an early goal for Atalanta, which is precisely what he got. Bonaventura showed more determination to reach a long, sweeping cross at the far post and to nudge the ball in with an outstretched leg in the second minute. German Denis nearly made it two in the 16th minute when his slightly mis-hit shot struck the post. The home team also hit the woodwork seven minutes later with Maresca's header from a corner hitting the bar. Atalanta got another goal in the 32nd minute with Denis scoring, but the linesman's flag was raised, although probably Bonaventura was in an offside position and not the goalscorer. Atalanta continued to attack at the start of the second half with Denis going close once again, jinking his way past Jonathan Rossini before shooting wide with only Sergio Romero to beat. Samp levelled in the 53rd minute when Soriano's shot was only parried by Andrea Consigli and Maresca pounced on the loose ball to send an acrobatic effort past the Atalanta goalkeeper. The goal gave a momentary lift to the home side, but they could not add a second and went behind again in the 76th minute. Denis was once again given too much room by the Samp defence, allowing him to time his pass to De Luca, who stroked the ball in first time for his first goal in Serie A. There were 15 minutes left for the Genovese side to respond and they tried all they could to get an equaliser. Eder first sent a shot wide while unbalanced before Consigli made a fine save to push Mauro Icardi's header away. In the 88th minute, Guglielmo Stendardo made a goal-line clearance to prevent Icardi from levelling and to save the points for the Nerazzurri.
