Plymouth scored twice in the last five minutes to ease past troubled League One club Portsmouth 3-0 in the Capital One Cup first round.

Pompey boss Michael Appleton was forced to field nine teenagers in his starting XI as they continue to suffer severe financial troubles off the pitch.

Plymouth's teenage import, on-loan Wolves winger Johnny Gorman, smashed in the 45th-minute opener, hammering an unstoppable rising drive past visiting goalkeeper Simon Eastwood.

The hosts forged further ahead in the 85th minute when substitute Paris Cowan-Hall latched on to a Maxine Blanchard flick-on to head Argyle 2-0 in front.

Two minutes later home striker Nick Chadwick latched on to a defence splitting through ball from substitute Joe Lennox to slot home from 15 yards.

It was tough on Portsmouth, whose experienced player-coach Ashley Westwood was forced to leave the field through injury in the 35th minute having started at centre-back.
