Hoffenheim's new coach Marco Kurz was able to end a six-game losing streak but could only celebrate a point in a goalless stalemate with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Kurz, who took charge of the beleaguered Bundesliga side during the winter break, set his side up with caution in mind, and although they created few goalscoring openings, they conceded even fewer chances.

Gladbach, for their part, looked equally happy to come away with a point, which leaves them in eighth.

Kurz made five changes to the side which ended 2012, welcoming Tim Wiese back in goal.

Wiese's performances since joining from Werder Bremen last summer had come in for criticism from the club's fans, but there could be no complaints about how he kept Gladbach at bay.

He did not have too much work to do, in truth, with Gladbach's attack unable to make the most of the guests' superior possession.

Luuk de Jong missed the target on the hour mark as the visitors started to increase the pressure.

Roel Brouwers headed arguably their best chance over in the 70th minute before Gladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was called into action for the first time to keep Tobias Weis' effort out

There was time for Hoffenheim substitute Joselu to miss from a good position, but a goal would have been harsh on Gladbach, who did not deserve to lose.

A draw was a fair result and a step in the right direction for Hoffenheim, who remain inside the bottom three, seven points adrift of safety.
