Frankfurt were in control early against Hannover

Eintracht Frankfurt returned to winning ways to remain five points behind leaders Bayern Munich with a strong victory at home to Hannover.

Karim Matmour gave Eintracht the lead after five minutes and Sebastian Jung made it 2-0 in the 18th minute.

Mohammed Abdellaoue pulled a goal back for Hannover shortly before the break but Alexander Meier made the points safe for Eintracht with eight minutes to go.

Hannover had a chance after just 40 seconds but Didier Ya Konan's shot went narrowly wide.

And Eintracht grabbed the lead in the fifth minute as Bastian Oczipka's cross from the left drifted to the far post where Matmour headed in from five yards out.

Eintracht doubled the advantage 13 minutes later with Stefan Aigner finding Jung, who hammered it home just inside the far left post.

Hannover pulled a goal back two minutes before the break as Lars Stindl crossed from the right side into the box where Abdellaoue was quicker than the Eintracht defence to poke the ball in.

Oczipka's free-kick from just outside the area found only the top of the net in the 64th minute for the hosts.

Hannover had another chance in the 71st minute but Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp made a superb save to deny Ya Konan.

And the hosts finished off the game in the 82nd minute by taking a 3-1 lead as Meier headed in Stefano Celozzi's cross.
