Aaron Hunt scored once and set up another as Werder Bremen claimed their first win of the Bundesliga season, beating derby rivals Hamburg 2-0. Nine minutes after having a penalty stopped, Hunt gave Bremen the lead from the spot in the 51st minute before setting up Nils Petersen to make it 2-0 after 67 minutes. Bremen nearly went ahead after just four minutes as Petersen's header rebounded off the lower half of the crossbar and off the line. The hosts were close again in the 28th minute but Sebastian Prodl's shot went over from 12 yards out. Bremen could not take advantage of a penalty three minutes before the break as Hamburg goalkeeper Rene Adler blocked Hunt's spot-kick low to his left after Eljero Elia was taken down by Hamburg's on-loan defender Jeffrey Bruma. Bremen took the lead in the 51st minute as Hunt this time beat Adler from the penalty spot - again to the right but higher and harder - after Dennis Aogo lost a ball in his own box and then fouled Petersen. Hamburg pushed forward looking for the equaliser but Artjoms Rudnevs' blast went just wide right in the 63rd minute and Ivo Ilicevic shot wide left two minutes later. Petersen picked up a goal for himself in the 67th minute as Petr Jiracek lost a ball to Clemens Fritz, who immediately passed forward to Hunt and the earlier goalscorer fed a through ball to Petersen, who beat Adler through the legs. Adler prevented his side from falling 3-0 down two minutes later, barely getting his hand on Zlatko Junuzoic's 17-yard strike. Bremen goalkeeper Sebastian Mielitz did not have much to do but stopped Maximillian Beister's 71st-minute attempt before Fritz cleared Jiracek's rebound attempt off the line. Bruma put through his own goal late on but Adler was able to bat away the Dutch defender's clearance attempt in the 88th minute.
