Martin Canning scored the winner as Hamilton held off a spirited Dunfermline side to secure a 3-2 victory at East End Park.
The Accies, managed by club captain Alex Neil following the departure of long-serving boss Billy Reid in midweek, saw goals from Jon McShane and Michael Devlin cancelled out by efforts from Ryan Thomson and Stephen Husband respectively.
But the visitors held their nerve to secure the three points, with Canning sealing the win against opponents battling to remain inexistence after going into administration.
McShane scored the Hamilton opener early on as he headed home an Ali Crawford corner after just two minutes.
The Pars equalised courtesy of Ryan Thomson on 36 but the Accies regained the lead 12 minutes into the second half through Devlin.
Husband made it 2-2 from the penalty spot in the 66th minute following a foul by Canning as the Pars showed their battling qualities.
But Canning made amends by grabbing the winning goal on 77, with any lingering relegation fears allayed after all the teams below Hamilton in the First Division were beaten.
