Gareth Ainsworth: Set for playing swan song

Team news for Saturday's League Two clash between Wycombe and Port Vale at Adams Park.

Wycombe player/manager Gareth Ainsworth is expected to pull his boots on for the final time when the Chairboys host his former club.

The 37-year-old signed a two-year deal with the club earlier this week and announced that he would hang up his boots this summer after what will be his 600th appearance in professional football, should he select himself.

Ainsworth has played 24 times for the Blues this season and he admitted it was a huge decision to bring his playing career to an end to focus on managing the Adams Park side.

And he is expected to name young goalkeeper Matt Ingram in his side once again after the shot stopper made a string of smart saves in the 1-0 defeat at Barnet last weekend.

Dean Winfield and Matt McClure both missed out at Underhill while Anthony Stewart, Matt Bloomfield, Danny Foster and Grant Basey all remain sidelined.

QPR loanee Bruno Andrade earned his side a penalty with his direct running having stepped off the bench against the Bees and he is pushing for a start while Dean Morgan will be hoping for the nod after the Wycombe attack created little against Barnet.

Manager Micky Adams hopes Ashley Vincent can be involved in Port Vale's promotion party.

Vincent has missed much of Vale's run-in after suffering an ankle injury last month but the winger looks set to be included in the squad that travels to Adams Park for the final game of the season.

"We thought Ashley would be in the squad for Northampton last week, but he wasn't quite right on the Friday before the game," said Adams, whose side clinched automatic promotion with a 2-2 home draw against the Cobblers last Saturday.

"We'll play it by ear, but I hope he can play because he's been a massive part of it this season."

Joe Davis might have got a run out against Wanderers but the young defender limped out of a reserve-team game on Tuesday afternoon and has been ruled out through injury.

He will join striker Calvin Andrew (knee) and versatile midfielder Rob Taylor (Achilles) on the sidelines.

Midfielder Kingsley James and centre-half Clayton McDonald will both travel after returning from loan spells with Hereford and Bristol Rovers respectively, but the latter has a hamstring injury.
