Diamond: Faces late test for Brewers

Team news for Saturday's League Two clash between Burton Albion and Torquay at the Pirelli Stadium.

Burton hope to have key defenders Zander Diamond and Anthony O'Connor back.

Both players missed the FA Cup third-round defeat to Leicester last weekend. Diamond has not played since the league loss at Barnet on December 21 because of a virus while a hamstring injury ruled out O'Connor at the King Power Stadium.

"We could have risked Zander against Leicester but we decided he wouldn't be able to do himself or the team justice," said Burton boss Gary Rowett.

"He's feeling a lot better in himself now and hopefully he'll be able to train towards the end of the week to put himself in contention for the Torquay game.

"It's a bit early to say whether Anthony will be back but he's progressing really well in terms of his recovery."

Rowett is also optimistic that leading goalscorer Calvin Zola will shake off a groin problem.

He added: "Calvin always suffers a bit when he plays a lot of football in a short space of time. But with us not having a midweek game he's had time to recover and he should be okay by the weekend."

Torquay defender Brian Saah is available for the trip having been suspended for five weeks.

The 26-year-old centre-back saw red at Bradford on December 8 and was given a three-match ban, but a series of postponements around the festive period means the Gulls have only played three times since.

It remains to be seen whether manager Martin Ling recalls Saah or sticks with on-loan Reading defender Angus MacDonald who has been deputising.

Captain Lee Mansell played in the 3-2 defeat by AFC Wimbledon on New Year's Day with three stitches in a knee wound but that injury has healed in time for him to feature.

Former Swindon striker Billy Bodin was given the all clear to return to training after a scan on his ankle and he looks likely to come into contention but right-back Joe Oastler is having treatment on his ankle.

Striker Ryan Jarvis (cracked rib and punctured lung) has upped his recovery while Ian Morris (Achilles tendon) and Lloyd Macklin (broken metatarsal) are set to step up their rehabilitation.
