Sharps: Pushing for a recall

Sharps: Pushing for a recall

Team news ahead of Saturday's League Two clash between Rotherham and Accrington at the New York Stadium.

Rotherham boss Steve Evans could be tempted to welcome captain Ian Sharps back to the fold.

Sharps was left on the substitutes' bench despite returning from suspension as the Millers crashed to a 2-1 defeat against Port Vale.

Evans' side are now without a home win in their last four outings and assistant manager Paul Raynor admitted they were disappointed by the loss to fellow promotion hopefuls Vale.

As a result, left-back Liam Ridehalgh, another unused replacement against Micky Adams' men, could also be welcomed back into the starting XI.

Craig Morgan, Lionel Ainsworth, Dale Tonge and David Noble are all out until the New Year.

Evans revealed both Tonge and Noble are expected to play 90 minutes in an outing for the reserves on January 2.

Accrington boss Leam Richardson will be without the services of Dean Winnard.

The defender received a second yellow card in their Boxing Day defeat at Bradford and will serve a one-match ban.

Fellow defender Thomas Eckersley is expected to replace him alongside Peter Murphy at the back while Lee Molyneux could also revert to a more familiar position.

Player/coach James Beattie could drop to the bench after a hectic festive period. Fellow strikers Padraig Amond and Marcus Carver are both vying for a place in attack.

Paul Rachubka is also set to continue in goal after his red card against Plymouth last weekend was rescinded in time for him to face the Bantams.

Wednesday's result leaves Richardson's side without a win in their last eight matches in all competitions. They've also lost four of their last five.
