Hird: Back in contention

Hird: Back in contention

Team news for Saturday's League Two clash between Chesterfield and Dagenham & Redbridge at the Proact Stadium.

Chesterfield could include former Arsenal winger Luis Boa Morte in their squad.

The 35-year-old made the surprise move to the Spireites on Wednesday night, but admitted he must prove his fitness to caretaker manager Tommy Wright before he can feature.

One player Wright will be able to call upon is defender Sam Hird, who has recovered from the hamstring injury which kept him out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Doncaster in midweek.

Hird's return from the treatment table will provide the Spireites boss with a welcome tonic given the other players currently occupying the sidelines.

Midfielder duo Mark Allott and Danny Whitaker are still out with respective hamstring and groin injuries.

They are joined by goalkeeper Tommy Lee (shoulder) and defender Nathan Smith (ankle).

Dagenham have virtually a fully-fit squad to choose from.

Long-term absentee Kevin Maher has now got much-needed minutes under his belt in practice and friendly matches following his foot injury and is hoping for a selection call from manager John Still.

Fit-again midfielder Matt Saunders made his first appearance since March as he played the full 90 minutes in Tuesday's 2-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Southend.

Still has picked up no new injury or suspension problems from the tie and will hope to get the Daggers back on the right path having seen their four-match unbeaten run come to an end.

Influential midfielder Michael Spillane is currently on four bookings and knows another will lead to an automatic one-match suspension.
