Howe: Faces late test for Gulls

Howe: Faces late test for Gulls

Team news ahead of Saturday's League Two clash between Torquay and Burton Albion at Plainmoor.

Torquay boss Martin Ling is confident target man Rene Howe will be fit to start.

Howe, who scored his fourth goal of the season in Tuesday's 1-0 win at AFC Wimbledon, jarred his knee during the game and has not trained since.

Neither has Ian Morris (groin) but Ling is expecting both to be fit to face the free-scoring Brewers.

The United boss said: "Rene has a sore knee and as a precaution won't train, nor will Ian but that is an on-going thing and he is getting better all the time.

"We fully expect both of them to be ready for Saturday so that just leaves us with Damon Lathrope (knee) and Saul Halpin (ankle) unavailable out of the 24-man squad."

Burton will be without defender Marcus Holness.

Holness had to come off after 31 minutes of the 3-1 home win over York in midweek because of a hamstring problem and the centre-half is expected to be out for around a fortnight.

"We don't know yet the extent of any tear," said Albion boss Gary Rowett. "Marcus does recover quickly but I think the best we can hope for is that he will only be out for a week or two."

Rowett saw strikers Calvin Zola and Matt Paterson and winger Jacques Maghoma slow up with minor knocks at various points on Wednesday night but all three players are expected to be fit.

A decision on whether striker Billy Kee makes the trip to his former club will not be made until he has been checked by the club doctor after suffering a bout of sickness that forced him to miss the York game.
