Haining: Doubtful for Vale clash

Haining: Doubtful for Vale clash

Team news for Saturday's League Two clash between Morecambe and Port Vale at the Globe Arena.

Morecambe skipper Will Haining is the only injury doubt for boss Jim Bentley ahead of the visit of Vale.

Haining limped off 10 minutes from time in Tuesday night's 2-2 draw with York at the Globe Arena and, although Bentley stated he was withdrawn as a precaution, the centre-back will continue to be monitored.

Should Haining fail to recover, Nick Fenton is ready to return to the starting line-up having missed the start of the season with a calf problem.

Lewis Alessandra is available to play a fuller role against Vale having dropped to the bench due to a hamstring complaint of his own, while midfielder Andrew Wright is in a similar position having shaken off a knock picked up in the opening day win over Exeter.

Tom Pope is a doubt for Vale ahead of their trip to face the Shrimpers.

Pope, who scored the third goal in Vale's 3-0 home win over Barnet on the opening day of the season, is nursing a slight hamstring strain following the 2-0 defeat at Accrington on Tuesday night.

The striker will continue to be assessed. Should he not be fit enough, manager Micky Adams has plenty of alternative forward options with Ben Williamson, Louis Dodds and Ashley Vincent all able to lead the attack.

Adams named an unchanged team against Stanley. Should he wish to make changes elsewhere, defenders Adam Yates and Joe Davis and midfielders Darren Murphy, Ryan Lloyd and Ryan Burge are all available.
