Donnelly: Could spearhead Dale attack

Team news for Saturday's League Two clash between Rochdale and Northampton at Spotland Stadium.

John Coleman could name an unchanged side when Rochdale kick-off their League Two campaign.

Coleman has a trio of injury problems among the Dale squad to occupy his thoughts, but none of them affect any of the starting XI that suffered a dramatic 4-3 extra-time defeat to Championship outfit Barnsley in the Capital One Cup last weekend.

Highly-rated youth products Reece Gray and Luke Watson are set for extended periods on the sidelines due to a broken leg and medial knee ligament damage respectively.

Goalkeeper Matt Edwards is out with a damaged wrist, leaving Josh Lillis to continue between the posts.

New-look strike pairing George Donnelly and Dele Adebola made their competitive debuts for Rochdale against Keith Hill's Tykes and are among those poised for league bows when the Cobblers visit Spotland.

Meanwhile, Lee Nicholls will start in goal for Northampton.

Nicholls, on loan from Wigan, has not been granted permission from his parent club to play in the Capital One Cup so teenager Dean Snedker made his debut in the first-round win over Cardiff on Tuesday night. However, Nicholls will replace the 17-year-old at Spotland.

Another keeper, Shane Higgs (Achilles), is the only injury absentee for manager Aidy Boothroyd, who is excited about the goalkeeping talent currently at the club.

"I'm thrilled with the goalkeeping situation, from being really concerned about it four weeks ago," said Boothroyd. "We've got a senior goalkeeper well on the way to fitness and he looks in great shape.

"Lee has been impressive from the start - he's a terrific talent with a lot to offer. And we've got young Dean who's come into the team and shown every aspect you'd want from a goalkeeper. We'll keep his feet on the ground and he's here on a long contract so he can develop."

Defenders David Artell and Joe Widdowson, strikers Clive Platt and Alex Nicholls and midfielder Chris Hackett all made their full debuts against Cardiff and are likely to keep their places. Fellow summer signing Ishmel Demontagnac will be hoping to make his Town bow after not making it off the bench in midweek.
