McGovern: Missing for Cumbrians

McGovern: Missing for Cumbrians

Team news ahead of Saturday's League One clash between Carlisle United and Notts County at Brunton Park.

Carlisle will be without Jon-Paul McGovern while defender Mike Edwards is hoping to retain his place against his former club.

Winger McGovern missed last weekend's win at Walsall with a recurrence of hernia trouble, which required surgery in the summer, and the club is currently waiting to learn the full extent of the problem.

Kallum Higginbotham, on loan from Huddersfield, stepped in for McGovern on the right wing at Walsall last weekend and is likely to retain his place.

Centre-half Edwards, a free summer signing after turning down a new deal at County, was preferred alongside Danny Livesey at Walsall and manager Greg Abbott must decide whether to retain that partnership or recall Peter Murphy.

Teenager Brad Potts made his fourth appearance for the Cumbrians last weekend and could continue in midfield, while Liam Noble, who stepped off the substitutes' bench to score a last-minute winner at Walsall, is pushing for recall to the starting XI as Abbott's side chase their first home win since the end of August.

Notts County welcome back defender Alan Sheehan.

The full-back served a one-match suspension following his dismissal against Stevenage and therefore missed the 1-0 defeat to League One leaders Tranmere last weekend.

Joss Labadie was absent when his former employers travelled to Meadow Lane and the midfielder could be set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines.

Labadie tweeted that he was not involved against Tranmere due to medial knee ligament damage and is likely to sit out once again when Keith Curle takes his side to Brunton Park.

Defenders Manny Smith (knee) and Tom Williams (calf) are still struggling so Ashley Eastham, a loan signing from Blackpool, could make his first start in the back four.

That would free Gary Liddle to move into the midfield berth left vacant by Labadie.
