Akins: Scored from the spot

Stevenage extended their unbeaten start to their League One campaign with a 1-0 victory at Oldham.

Lucas Akins' first-half penalty earned Boro back-to-back wins on the road after their midweek success at Leyton Orient.

It was a workmanlike and highly disciplined display from the Hertfordshire side and there is clearly no hangover from last season's play-off heartache having collected seven points from a possible nine.

It is an altogether different story for Oldham, who have picked up only one point from their first three league matches. And after being booed from the Boundary Park pitch for the second successive home match these are deeply worrying times for Latics manager Paul Dickov.

The winning goal from Akins came in the 33rd minute after a defensive howler from James Tarkowski. The teenager's header failed to reach goalkeeper Alex Cisak, who was forced to trip Marcus Haber just inside the penalty area.

Oldham created few chances and former 'keeper Chris Day had an easy ride on his return to Boundary Park.
