Live Commentary

This article updates itself. There is no need to refresh this page. Last Updated at 4:54 pm, October 20th 2012

  1. Many thanks for following. I'm available at @danielstorey85, and hope you have a lovely Saturday evening

  2. However, Wigan will be left fuming by the decision to rule Arouna Kone offside. He looked level, and would have evened up the game

  3. The first half was woeful, the second half sublime. End-to-end for almost the whole 45 minutes, but Swansea deserve their win. They were more adventurous by far

  4. It's all over! Swansea win 2-1

  5. 90+4

Ali Al-Habsi comes up for a corner and gets his head on the ball. His header is easily saved, however. That might be it.

  6. 90+3

Danny Graham gets put through on goal, but a poor touch gives it to Al Habsi.

  7. 90+2

Really poor from Wigan. Not enough haste, and eventually they pass the ball away

  8. 90+1

Shaun Maloney crudely stops Nathan Dyer, and is booked for his troubles.

  9. 90

There will be four minutes of injury time

  10. 88

He might do, but hits it tamely to Vorm.

  11. 87

Wigan gain a free kick thirty yards out. Will Maloney fancy this?

  12. 85

Ki is booked for Swansea. Not sure the reason if I'm honest (and I am)

  13. 84

Michu gets through on goal but, with pressure from Ben Watson, the Spaniard fires over

  14. 83

Danny Graham also comes on for Swansea, replacing Jonathan De Guzman

  15. 82

Two more substitutions, Di Santo and James McArthur removed, to be replaced by Jordi Gomez and Mauro Boselli

  16. 81

Huge chance for Franco Di Santo, but his shot is weak and easily saved.

  17. 80

It's now Wigan who have control. Swansea look as if they will be happy to defend. The reaction of the fans shows they disagree.

  18. 77

James McArthur with some lovely footwork, and his shot is deflected wide.

  19. 76

Angel Rangel catches Shaun Maloney, and is the second player in the book

  20. 75

Nathan Dyer with a stinging strike, well turned round the post by Al-Habsi. It's suddenly end-to-end madness!

  21. 73

Emerson Boyce is yellow carded for a high foot which catches a Swansea face

  22. 72

In all that madness there have been two substitutions. Ben Watson comes on for Figueroa for Wigan, and goalscorer Hernandez is removed for Nathan Dyer

  23. 71

Wow! Arouna Kona heads the ball in but is ruled offside. He's level you know. Big let off for Swansea

  24. 70

I need the game to settle to catch my breath, but who cares, let's have goals galore!

  25. 69

Three goals in four minutes. I told you it would get exciting!

  26. 69

2-1!!! It's raining goals at the Liberty Stadium! A scruffy goal but a wonderful backheel from Emerson Boyce.

  27. 68

Possibly game over now. Wigan look shocked, but all it took was Swansea stepping up a gear.

  28. 67

2-0 Swansea!! Within two minutes, Swansea have doubled their lead, and it's another Spanish goal, this time Michu heading home a brilliant De Guzman corner

  29. 66

It had been coming, and now Wigan need to completely change their game to get back into it.

  30. 65

A turn on the edge of the area, swivel and shot from Hernandez, and the Liberty Stadium erupts in relief

  31. 65

1-0 Swansea!! Pablo Hernandez with his first Swansea goal

  32. 63

Ki is beginning to control things in midfield, and has another shot smartly saved by the Wigan goalkeeper.

  33. 62

If I had a pound for every corner hitting the first man. Moan, moan, moan

  34. 61

Ki shoots straight at Ali Al-Habsi, but with options right and left he should really have done better

  35. 59

From the resulting free kick, Shaun Maloney's shot lacks power but does force a save from Michel Vorm. Easy though.

  36. 58

Leon Britton fouls Shaun Maloney, and is lucky not to be booked. Cynical one.

  37. 57

Arouna Kone has a chance for Wigan after a flowing move, but his angle is too narrow and the ball goes wide

  38. 55

Wigan simply haven't had the ball enough today, and it's hurting them. Swansea coming forward at will.

  39. 54

At some point, professional footballers will stop hitting the first man with free kicks. Not today though

  40. 52

Wayne Routledge has played well today, his darting runs looking dangerous. He is fouled for a free kick near the corner flag.

  41. 50

Figueroa slips in the area for Wigan, and is lucky to be able to clear the ball for a throw in

  42. 49

Much better from Swansea in the second half. Laudrup has clearly given them a rocket

  43. 48

Fantastic long range strike from Leon Britton, who hits the ball inches wide from 25 yards out. It would have been his first Premier League goal

  44. 47

Swansea start as they did in the first half, having more of the ball

  45. 46

    We are back underway...

  46. No changes at half time from either manager, but both will want a significant improvement from the first half showing. Swansea need more invention, Wigan need more ball. The teams are back out.

  47. Join me again for the second half, and rememebr to get in touch with @danielstorey85. I promise it'll be better after the break

  48. Little action in front of goal in the first period. Swansea have had the better of things, forcing a number of corners, but neither side have tested the goalkeeper enough. Two managers will be having stern words, I suspect.

  49. And there is the half time whistle.

  50. 45

Into one minute of injury time at the Liberty Stadium

  51. 43

Chance for Swansea! As I type that, Michu fires the ball across goal, but no-one has gambled and Wigan concede a corner.

  52. 42

As the game approaches half time, it seems to be petering out a little. Honestly, it's been disappointing.

  53. 41

De Guzman takes, and his side win an attacking throw in. True to form, it comes to nothing.

  54. 40

Swansea have a had number of free kicks out wide, this time Hernandez fouled

  55. 39

Pablo Hernandez has improved in the last fifteen minutes, and wins another Swansea corner. Rangel fires over from the headed clearance

  56. 37

Shaun Maloney plays in Jean Beausejour, who clips the ball just over the bar from wide

  57. 34

Swansea gain a free kick out wide on the left. The ball is crossed in by Ki, and the Swans win a corner. The ball is cleared easily

  58. 33

A bit of respite for Wigan as Kone is fouled, but Swansea will feel that they must score now they have (finally) got on top of the game

  59. 31

It's all Swansea now, and a fabulous tackle from Boyce halts De Guzman's progress.

  60. 30

Great chance for Swansea! Routledge does fantastically well down the right, and Michu heads over from six yards

  61. 29

The game has broken down time and time again in midfield. Is this the Joe Allen missing effect?

  62. 26

There is a really subdued atmosphere here, which probably sums up the game thus far. Rangel wins a corner to liven them up

  63. 25

Routledge looks to play Michu through, but Boyce is able to slide in and clear

  64. 24

The Wigan player is ok, and we resume the game...

  65. 23

Swansea are now at least enjoying the majority of the ball, but do look reasonably uninventive. James McArthur has taken a knock in the face and will receive treatment.

  66. 21

De Guzman bends one from twenty yards which falls harmlessly wide, but at least he is trying to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. Someone needed to

  67. 19

Both sides very wasteful in possession, handing the ball back at will. Not how both sides usually try and play the game

  68. 18

Wayne Routledge provides a fabulous cross to Michu, but the Spaniard goes for the spectacular volley, which goes a yard over the bar

  69. 17

Arouna Kone looks quite sharp for Wigan, but both sides are wasting set pieces at will so far

  70. 16

De Guzman is the man in the action. He shoots from outside the box but another comfortable save for Al-Habsi. Can I say this game needs a goal already?

  71. 14

De Guzman is a fraction late and catches Shaun Maloney. Free kick to Wigan

  72. 13

Swansea have lost their way a bit, caught in possession once or twice recently, and Wigan's influence in the game is growing

  73. 12

The ball breaks to Shaun Maloney in the Swansea box after good play in midfield, but Vorm dives to save and hold the ball

  74. 11

Pablo Hernandez passes the ball out of play. A difficult start to his career in Engand for the £5.5million man

  75. 10

De Guzman strikes the ball for Swansea, but a regulation save for Al-Habsi. Wigan immediately win a free kick at the other end of the field

  76. 9

The corner is cleared but di Santo fouls Rangel 35 yards out to give Swansea a free kick

  77. 8

Pablo Hernandez wins a corner for Swansea on the right wing

  78. 7

Caldwell fouls Michu and Swansea have a set piece forty yards from goal. No danger as they elect to take it short

  79. 6

Kone takes a shot at goal from 30 yards, but it is easy for Vorm in the Swansea goal. Probably going wide anyway.

  80. 4

Arouna Kone is caught offside. With the number 2 on his back and up front, he deserves that

  81. 4

Wigan finally get control of the ball with a couple of throw ins, but the side do look nervous in possession

  82. 3

A shot from Ki of Swansea is dragged wide, but Swansea have started really brightly here

  83. 1

Swansea starting nicely, passing the ball around as has become customary. A ball into the box from De Guzman is cleared.

  84. 0

We are underway here at the Liberty Stadium. Wigan getting us going...

  85. So, five minutes until kick off. After hearing reports of unrest in the dressing room, Swansea fans will be hoping for a dominant display, and many look pretty nervous. The teams are on the way out...

  86. In fact, it's more drum n' bass music. Ouch

  87. Swansea play a funny little drumroll after announce each player over the tannoy, home and away. It's fairly dreadful.

  88. Looking at the pictures from the ground, it would be fair to say that Wigan have not brought thousands of fans to the the Liberty Stadium, so no excuses for you not being glued to the thrilling live text.

  89. A reminder to keep in touch with @danielstorey85 with your thoughts. I've just heard that the game is definitely going to be as exciting as Spurs v Chelsea

  90. 7. The two games last season produced two goals, both scored by Gylfi Sigurdsson in the game at the DW Stadium. The corresponding fixture last season was 0-0, but I don't even want to think about that right now.

  91. 6. Both sides have identical records in their last six games, with two draws and three defeats in last five league games, both punctured by comfortable Capital One Cup victories.

  92. 5. Both Swansea (8) and Wigan (5) have same number of points after seven games as last season

  93. 4. All 12 of Swansea's goals have come from open play

  94. 3. There have been three red cards in the last four meetings between the two teams

  95. 2. Wigan are currently on a run away from home of two clean sheets in last 21 games on the road

  96. We'll start with the simple - 1. Three defeats in last four games for Wigan.

  97. Secondly, you are about to get a stat attack. Seven sumptuous statistical specials. You're welcome.

  98. Right, let's get two things sorted. Firstly, please get in touch with me on Twitter with your hopes, concerns and predictions for the game - @danielstorey85 - and I will publish as many as I can.

  99. Today's referee is Mike Jones, who has issued 15 yellow cards in four games this season, but no red cards. Let's have none today either lads.

  100. Wigan: Al Habsi, Boyce, Caldwell, Figueroa, Ramis, Beausejour, McCarthy, McArthur, Maloney, Di Santo, Kone

  101. Swansea: Vorm, Rangel, Williams (c), Chico, Davies, Britton, Ki, De Guzman, Routledge, Hernandez, Michu.

  102. Huzzah, the team news is here:The effect of Roberto Martinez on Swansea's current lofty position cannot be underestimated, but that will be largely forgotten today, and the fact remains that both sides now desperately need a win.

  103. 0

Good afternoon, and welcome to our live commentary from the Liberty Stadium where Swansea host Wigan Athletic. It's the Roberto Martinez derby. Or Jordi Gomez.
