A late goal by Romain Alessandrini ensured Rennes picked up a 2-2 draw from their Ligue 1 clash with Marseille.

A late goal by Romain Alessandrini ensured Rennes picked up a point from their Ligue 1 clash with Marseille. Marseille were heading for victory when Jordan Ayew volleyed home with seven minutes to go after his brother, Andre, and Kevin Theophile Catherine had traded goals. However, Rennes were not finished and Alessandrini tapped home a simple goal after goalkeeper Steve Mandanda had parried the ball into his path. The hosts made the early running, Romain Danze heading Alessandrini's cross over before the latter's fierce shot was inches above the bar. However, it was Marseille who went ahead. Mathieu Valbuena and Andre Ayew combined inside the penalty area before the latter slotted home a low left-footed shot. They almost doubled their lead two minutes before the break when the unmarked Andre Ayew unleashed a goalbound volley only to be thwarted by Benoit Costil. Alessandrini was heavily involved and his cross found Mevlut Erding with the striker's volley forcing Mandanda into a save. Rennes did force the equaliser with a little over half an hour remaining. Again Alessandrini played a part, his corner finding Kevin Theophile Catherine in the six-yard box and the defender headed home. Theophile Catherine's cross was volleyed on target by Danze but the ball was deflected away by the defence. Then after 83 minutes, Marseille regained the lead, Morgan Amalfitano crossing towards the far post where Jordan Ayew volleyed home a low shot. They were on the brink of victory when Alessandrini intervened. Abdoulaye Sane's cross was intercepted by Mandanda but the keeper could only push the ball out to Alessandrini who had a simple tap-in to rescue a point.
