Nancy celebrate but they were pegged back

Fifth-placed Valenciennes needed a second-half own goal to earn a point at bottom-of-the-table Nancy in this evening's Ligue 1 clash at the Stade Marcel Picot.

Jordan Loties opened the scoring for the hosts just after the half-hour and that looked to be enough to get Jean Fernandez's side only a second league win of the season, until Massodio Haidara put through his own net 17 minutes from time.

The result left VA five points off leaders Lyon, who visit St Etienne tomorrow night, and kept Nancy at the foot of the standings - still level on points with Troyes, who drew 1-1 at home to Nice.

Despite their lowly position, Nancy started much the brighter of the two teams and went within a whisker of going ahead in the seventh minute. Thomas Mangani picked out Djamel Bakar, whose shot from the edge of the area was inches wide of the left post with Valenciennes goalkeeper Nicolas Penneteau well beaten.

Loosemy Karaboue then got in behind the visitors' defence and lashed a shot into the side-netting.

VA mustered their first chance of note in the 17th minute, Vincent Aboubakar's far-post header from Gaetan Bong's cross cleared off the line by Andre Luiz.

Aboubakar was wide of the mark again four minutes later with a diving header from Gael Danic's superb delivery.

When the deadlock was broken in the 31st minute, though, it was the home fans who were celebrating. Yohan Mollo swung in a corner towards the far post, where an unmarked Loties smashed a right-footed shot home for his first goal of the season.

Valenciennes went close to equalising 11 minutes into the second half when Gregory Pujol turned on the edge of the area and unleashed a drive which struck the base of Guy N'dy Assembe's post.

They did not have to wait too much longer to get back on level terms, however. Fifteen minutes later, N'dy Assembe came out to deal with Foued Kadir's free-kick and Nancy defender Haidara - unaware of his goalkeeper's advances - knocked the ball beyond him into an empty net.

Nancy had one chance to get back in front at the death but Salif Sane directed his effort wide from Mollo's cross.
