Bafetimbi Gomis: Bagged a brace for Lyon
Four second-half goals lifted Lyon to an emphatic 4-1 Ligue 1 victory over promoted Troyes.
Remi Garde called for a more convincing display from his players after opening their campaign with a narrow win over Rennes, and the Lyon boss certainly got that in the second 45 minutes on Saturday.
The hosts had to be stung into life, however, after Troyes took the lead through Jean-Christophe Bahebeck a minute into the second half.
Lisandro Lopez spurned a chance to level minutes later when he fluffed his lines from the penalty spot, but goals by Bafetimbi Gomis and Michel Bastos swung the match in Lyon's favour.
Troyes were in trouble when Julien Faussurier saw red for a reckless challenge on Cris in the 68th minute, and Lyon duly capitalised late on through a Lopez strike and a second for Gomis.
Lyon looked in the mood to take the match to the opposition from the outset and with two minutes gone Yoann Gourcuff tested the reflexes of Yohann Thuram-Ulien with a long-range half-volley.
Clement Grenier and Gomis wasted great opportunities to open the scoring for Lyon as the sides went in level at the break, but within a minute of the restart the breakthrough came - and it was the Troyes fans left celebrating.
Fabrice N'Sakala started the move, attacking down the left and beating Mouhamadou Dabo before crossing for Bahebeck, who fired home beyond Hugo Lloris to open his account on his debut.
Lyon should have been level on 49 minutes when Granddi Ngoyi brought down Lopez in the area and the referee pointed to the spot, but the Argentinian saw his spot-kick parried away by Thuram-Ulien.
But from the resulting corner Lyon's opener did arrive, Grenier's inswinger nodded home by Gomis.
A Grenier corner also delivered Lyon's second goal after 66 minutes. Cris' crashing header was cleared off the line by Carlos Rincon, but Bastos was on hand to acrobatically fire home.
Two minutes later Faussurier saw a straight red for a poor challenge on Cris, but Lyon only made their man advantage tell in the final two minutes as first Lopez drilled home through the goalkeeper's legs and then Gomis shrugged off N'Sakala before poking past Thuram-Ulien.
