  1. It was 45 years ago to the day that West Brom beat Liverpool, and history repeats itself as Roy Hodgson gets a measure of retribution against the club that sacked him, despite Liverpool incredibly failing to score after 30 shots. Thanks for your company at Anfield and I'll see you soon.

  2. FULL TIME. Liverpool 0 West Brom 1.

  3. 90+3

Shelvey shows his frustration as he bids to win the ball back, clattering into Ridgewell and earning a yellow card.

  4. 90+3

Cox this time goes for the incredible as he launches an effort towards the top corner which is easy for Reina to leave.

  5. 90+2

Scharner calmly plays the ball away from Shelvey as West Brom retain possession with two more minutes of added time to be played.

  6. 90+1

Suarez again, but his drilled ball across goal is smothered by Foster at the near post.

  7. 90

Skrtel again makes a careless foul as he clatters into Scharner, conceding a needless free-kick which goes into the goal but a foul is given against Scharner on Reina.

  8. 89

Andrews goes for the spectacular with a stunning effort from range which has Reina flying but ends up behind goal with the fans.

  9. 88

Skrtel completely clatters into Long, and then amazingly has the cheek to question the decision, but the referee rightfully gives West Brom the free-kick regardless.

  10. 87

Suarez's touch to Downing is lovely, but the winger's cross is headed away, before Jones then heads clear for a throw-in.

  11. 86

Cox is on as Dorrans comes off for the Baggies,

  12. 85

Bellamy shows too much of the ball to Andrews who clears, before Suarez is caught offside, and he can't even put the ball in the net then.

  13. 84

Bellamy cuts inside Ridgewell but his shot takes a touch off Olsson and Foster has an easily hit to deal with.

  14. 83

And for the Reds, Shelvey replaces Spearing.

  15. 82

Scharner replaces Odemwingie as West Brom boost their defensive options.

  16. 81

Bellamy is tackled expertly by Andrews as Liverpool win a corner, which falls to Carroll whose shot is charged down by Ridgewell.

  17. 80

Dalglish is fuming claiming Liverpool should have had a penalty in that attack, but the ball hit Olsson's knee as West Brom cleared.

  18. 79

Mulumbu looks for the one-two with Odemwingie, showing good invention, but Liverpool break as neither Carroll or Bellamy can convert in a penalty area scramble.

  19. 78

Enrique crosses in with Ridgewell back to clear as Liverpool continue their assault on the West Brom goal, but Odemwingie breaks and Skrtel recovers fantastically to tackle.

  20. 77

Liverpool win a corner from the re-start and handball claims are defeaning against McAuley from Henderson's delivery, with replays showing it came off the hand of Agger anyway.

  21. 75

It's incredible. Johnson is the culprit as he allows Mulumbu in with a poor clearance, before Odemwingie calmly fires past the wrong footed Reina. 1-0 to the Baggies!

  22. 75

    GOAL! Odemwingie scores!

  23. 75

Maxi is replace by Downing in a Reds swap.

  24. 73

Bellamy can't keep Johnson's touch in play, but Liverpool resume possession and continue to look menacing as West Brom pile the bodies back.

  25. 71

Suarez is caught offside as he controlled Johnson's ball, which was excellent skill by the way. Baggies free-kick.

  26. 70

For those interested, Liverpool have had 22 shots today, seven on target. Meanwhile, Foster ends up conceding a corner from Bellamy's deflected effort.

  27. 69

Andrews replaces Thomas in a West Brom change.

  28. 68

Kuyt comes off and Bellamy replaces him to add a clinical nature to Liverpool's strike force.

  29. 67

This is incredible. Liverpool are creating chances at will, as Henderson is found in space before firing inches wide. However Kenny Dalglish is teaching them to shoot, they should probably ignore it.

  30. 66

For once, Johnson is tackled by Thomas on the right, and a throw-in is given with at least THREE clearances off the goal line denying Liverpool!

  31. 65

The corner falls to Spearing but it's a dismal effort from the midfielder who goes for power rather than accuracy and it's a Liverpool goal kick.

  32. 64

Precise goalkeeping from Foster denies Kuyt, before the keeper is again busy at the near post against Carroll before McAuley sweeps up for a corner.

  33. 63

Ridgewell continues his poor game with a loose pass down the left, the ball aimed at no-one in the first place.

  34. 62

The storm is back in full effect as Johnson again whips a ball in far too easily, with Carroll leaping well but again heading over. Johnson and Kuyt have run riot down the right side today.

  35. 61

Suarez nips in behind Jones, with Foster rushing out to smother the ball, which Suarez impressively keeps in before the Baggies keeper finally claims at the near post.

  36. 60

Liverpool hit the post again! This unbelievable curse continues as Kuyt first of all strikes the woodwork with a deflected shot, with Carroll then firing over moments after.

  37. 58

Smart play from Thomas as he draws a foul from Henderson, with West Brom linking more passes together after weathering the storm from Liverpool.

  38. 57

Carroll helps on Skrtel's ball, but Liverpool's finishing is again horrific as the winger sends a half-volley well over the bar.

  39. 56

Suarez is penalised for tugging on Olsson, with the battle between the two becoming more engrossing by the minute.

  40. 55

Suarez is brilliant as he cuts inside Jones with ease, eluding the sliding Mulumbu as well before launching a shot over the bar. It just won't fall for him today.

  41. 54

Odemwingie is closed down as he looked for Brunt, with West Brom struggling in the final third as Liverpool regain possession.

  42. 53

Carroll gets his head to it but can't direct an effort on target as West Brom clear, with the Reds in full control at the moment.

  43. 52

Excellent play from Liverpool, before Johnson's cross is deflected and ends up bouncing out of play at the near post for a corner.

  44. 50

Liverpool hit the bar! Luck continues to evade Liverpool as Henderson's effort hits the bar and comes off Foster behind goal.

  45. 49

Long is penalised for barging into Enrique, with the striker's work rate exceptional so far today.

  46. 48

Albion press but Liverpool's pressure forces them back, and Mulumbu ends up playing a loose pass into the path of Johnson.

  47. 47

Suarez is again delightful as he controls Johnson's pass and fires the ball across goal with no Red shirt lurking for a tap in.

  48. 46

Liverpool kick off the second half.

  49. Two brilliant saves from Reina and a host of missed chances for Liverpool ensure its goalless at the break but surely it can't stay that way? Send your second half predictions into or tweet @JWoodfield365

  50. HALF TIME. Liverpool 0 West Brom 0.

  51. 45+1

One minute of added time to be played.

  52. 45

Olsson recovers well as Kuyt crosses in to Suarez, the centre-back getting enough of his body in the way to deflect the ball into Foster's path.

  53. 44

Long hussles Skrtel and forces him back as the atmosphere becomes distinctly subdued around Anfield.

  54. 43

Ridgewell clears as Liverpool assert their dominance, camping out in West Brom's half before Skrtel is denied in the box by a lunge from Olsson.

  55. 42

Agger finds the ball at his feet from the delivery back in but he goes for the near post and Foster's touch puts it out for another corner.

  56. 41

The corner flag takes a crushing as Mulumbu clatters into Kuyt, with the end result a Liverpool corner.

  57. 40

Suarez shows great skill against Jones and then wins a corner off Olsson. Awesome play from the striker.

  58. 39

Kuyt gets away from Ridgewell but is judged to have fouled the left-back, much to his chagrin.

  59. 37

Another long range effort, this time from Odemwingie as he unleashes a drive that swerves wide of Reina's goal. Poor defending from Johnson in the build up.

  60. 36

West Brom's break is hindered by a mix-up between Long and Odemwingie, but solid passing ends up with Dorrans who can only drive straight at Johnson.

  61. 35

Spearing unleashes a solid effort from range, which has Foster scrambling with the ball very nearly creeping in at the far post.

  62. 34

The ball comes off Olsson and Ridgewell but Reina is again on hand to make a strong save from the latter. How this game is still goalless is beyond me.

  63. 33

Thomas crosses in, with Skrtel on hand to head behind for a corner which Olsson and McAuley travel up for.

  64. 32

Liverpool press forward, with Enrique at the heart of their link-up play, with West Brom marking up much better as Jones concedes a throw-in.

  65. 30

Liverpool are forced back after Olsson's clearance, before Enrique's excellent delivery finds Suarez whose looping header lands on the roof of the net.

  66. 29

Straight back up the other end and Kuyt continues to run riot on the left with Ridgewell again wanting, before Suarez earns a corner.

  67. 28

It's a great save from Reina as Long's knock-down into Brunt results in a shot from close range with the Reds keeper making a terrific parry.

  68. 27

Dorrans' free-kick doesn't even beat the wall. A dreadful effort and a big waste for West Brom.

  69. 25

Long wriggles away from Skrtel brilliantly, drawing a foul from the centre-back as West Brom win a free-kick 25 yards out.

  70. 24

Johnson advances and delivers into the box with Suarez drawing a save from Foster, before Maxi fires the rebound over the bar. It's genuinely incredible how Liverpool aren't ahead.

  71. 23

It's alll too familiar for Liverpool as Suarez cuts inside Olsson before firing wide from 20 yards, with Olsson eventually clearing for a throw-in.

  72. 21

A stunning cross from Maxi finds Carroll in the box but his header is narrowly over as Liverpool close in on the opening goal.

  73. 20

Liverpool are claiming a penalty as Maxi tangles with Jones, but it was never a penalty despite the Reds players' protests.

  74. 19

Another chance goes begging as Liverpool play the corner short with Suarez playing the ball across goal with Agger unable to convert from close range.

  75. 18

The referee causes confusion as Enrique's ball is slipped past Kuyt, before Suarez does well to earn his side a corner.

  76. 17

West Brom enjoy possession as they press forward, but their quality in the final third is poor as Jerome looks for Long and plays the ball out of play.

  77. 15

Enrique has a pop but it's not his best effort as he skies it wide of high of goal from 25 yards.

  78. 14

Olsson and Ridgewell let Enrique's ball drift over the top of them, and Carroll ends up conceding a corner with the Baggies defence looking rather indecisive right now.

  79. 13

The first real chance of the game for Albion as Brunt takes a swing from 30 yards and fires an effort that bobbles wide of Reina's goal.

  80. 12

Odemwingie is penalised for backing into Agger as Liverpool start to dominate possession with the Baggies a bit too casual.

  81. 11

Johnson again crosses in but his delivery into the back post finds not one Red shirt and Foster lets it run out for a goal kick.

  82. 10

It should be 1-0. Great move from Liverpool with Suarez finding Kuyt who had slipped behind Ridgewell and the Dutchman fires wide from 10 yards.

  83. 9

Johnson gets away from Thomas on the right, but his delivery takes a touch of Olsson and ends up landing in the path of Foster.

  84. 8

Mulumbu advances and searches for Long through a narrow angle which is closed off by Agger as Reina gathers.

  85. 7

Long is tackled excellently by Skrtel, conceding a throw-in while West Brom wanted a foul against the defender.

  86. 6

Maxi is found by Henderson, before the ball is sprayed back to Kuyt who delightfully finds Henderson with the midfielder just unable to track it down. Baggies goal kick.

  87. 5

Liverpool press with intent but a lovely move comes to an end, and Long is caught on the break by Agger which results in a Baggies free-kick.

  88. 4

Spearing sprays a ball out to Kuyt but it's a really poor ball and there's no way the Dutchman is latching on to it.

  89. 3

Odemwingie holds up play for Albion but ends up conceding a throw-in after good pressure from Henderson.

  90. 2

Strong work from Jones, who rushes to the byline, but the impressive season from Enrique continues as he makes the tackle to earn the Reds a goal kick.

  91. 1

West Brom get the game underway.

  92. Our friends at Sky Bet are backing Liverpool at 4/11 this afternoon, despite them only winning five out of 16 home games all season. West Brom are 8/1 to secure a triumph for Roy Hodgson against his former side, while the draw can be backed at 7/2.

  93. Captain Steven Gerrard is the notable absentee from the squad as Liverpool register four changes for the visit of West Brom and a first return to Anfield of former manager Roy Hodgson. Goalkeeper Jose Reina, Jose Enrique, Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez all come in as Gerrard, Brad Jones, Jamie Carragher and Stewart Downing are left out of the FA Cup semi-final winning team. Hodgson makes two changes to the team which beat QPR last weekend, with Jonas Olsson and Shane Long replacing Marc-Antoine Fortune and Craig Dawson.

  94. Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Jose Enrique, Kuyt, Henderson, Spearing, Maxi, Suarez, Carroll. Subs: Doni, Coates, Downing, Carragher, Shelvey, Kelly, Bellamy.

  95. West Brom: Foster, Jones, McAuley, Olsson, Ridgewell, Brunt, Dorrans, Mulumbu, Thomas, Odemwingie, Long. Subs: Fulop, Tchoyi, Andrews, Shorey, Dawson, Cox, Scharner.

  96. Here are the teams...
