  1. Brighton have the misfortune of becoming the first team to score three own-goals in the FA Cup, while Skrtel, Carroll and Suarez are also on the score sheet. Liverpool will now meet Stoke at Anfield in the quarter-final. The result could also be a marker for the Carling Cup final, where Dalglish's men will meet Cardiff, who lost 3-1 at home to Brighton earlier in the season. Stay with us for all the post-match reaction.

  2. 90 + 3

    FULL-TIME: LIVERPOOL 6 BRIGHTON 1

  3. 90 + 2

The final whistle will be slightly delayed, as we have a streaker on the pitch at Anfield. The pitch invader hugs Carragher.

  4. 90

ADDED TIME: There will be a minimum of two minutes added time before the final whistle.

  5. 89

Bridcutt is back on his feet and able to make his way to the touchline before re-joining the game.

  6. 88

Referee Marriner would probably be doing Brighton a favour if he did just end the game. Bridcutt is still receiving treatment on the pitch.

  7. 87

Brighton look like they are now willing the final whistle. Bridcutt, to make his day even worse, is down with an injury.

  8. 86

Vincelot shows good feet to beat Skrtel on the edge of the Liverpool box. But he drags wide from 18 yards when shooting.

  9. Enrique charges forward down the right and has space to pick out a cross. He finds Carroll at the back post and the £35m man heads back across the face of goal to give strike partner Suarez a simple header underneath the crossbar.

  10. 85

    GOAL SUAREZ (6-1)!!!

  11. 84

Liverpool have been far too strong for Brighton today. LuaLua's stunning goal apart, Poyet's side have offered nothing in attack.

  12. 83

Kuyt almost makes it six for Liverpool after the corner which followed the penalty. The ball comes back off the crossbar. Kuyt probably should have scored.

  13. After Noone felled Kuyt, Dalglish made a clear signal for Suarez to take the spot-kick. But Liverpool's No.7 made a hash of the penalty when attempting to be clever with a stuttered run-up. It was an easy save for Brezovan.

  14. 81

    PENALTY SAVED BY BREZOVAN!

  15. 80

    PENALTY TO LIVERPOOL!

  16. 79

Ironic cheers from the Liverpool fans as this time Dunk safely heads the ball back to Brezovan when following up a Carroll shot.

  17. 78

There was a nice touch as Gerrard left the field. He stopped to shake hands with former Liverpool reserve team-mate Navarro.

  18. 77

Liverpool make a triple change. Downing, Gerrard and Henderson are replaced by Kuyt, Shelvey and Rodriguez.

  19. It is a staggering statistic, but Brighton have scored three own-goals in this match. After Brezovan again flapped at a cross, Dunk takes a touch and then attempts to control the ball on his knee, but only succeeds in carrying the ball over his own goalline. Horrible defending.

  20. 75

    OWN-GOAL DUNK (5-1)!!!

  21. 73

Carroll drifts off to the right-hand side and whips a cross towards the far post, which Johnson cannot quite properly meet.

  22. Shocking defending from Brighton. From their own corner, they allow Henderson to break. He lobs the ball to the far post where Gerrard is gifted possession. The Liverpool captain drives a shot across the face of goal and Bridcutt is again horribly unfortunate to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when stood on the line to deflect the ball into his own net.

  23. 71

    OWN-GOAL BRIDCUTT (4-1)!!!

  24. 70

Noone wins a corner for Brighton off Henderson.

  25. 69

Mackail-Smith comes on in place of Vokes and Romain Vincelot replaces El-Abd.

  26. 68

Noone sees the potential headlines when shooting wide from 25 yards. With the ball out of play, Brighton are making changes.

  27. 67

Brighton's record signing, Craig Mackail-Smith, is warming up on the touchline. The striker would be his club's last hope.

  28. 66

Things have gone a little flat after Liverpool's bright start to the first half. They look as if they are now trying to sap Brighton's remaining energy.

  29. 65

A loud shout from Reina sees the Liverpool goalkeeper come and punch a cross. He gets more height then distance and Johnson eventually tidies up.

  30. 64

Downing looks as confident as he has been in months. A bouncing ball falls to the England international and he skews his first-time shot bouncing just wide of the target.

  31. 63

Adam and Suarez lead a counter-attack for Liverpool, but there is a breakdown in communication and the ball is lost.

  32. 62

Carroll looked like he enjoyed his goal a lot when considering his first-half tussles with El-Abd.

  33. 61

It could now be damage limitation for Brighton, but they are not giving up their passing game. Dalglish may now be starting to think of the Carling Cup final and could opt to make some changes.

  34. 60

Gerrard has his hands on his head after uncharacteristically playing a short pass to Downing. Having broken forward almost the length of the pitch, the Liverpool captain has the chance for a simple pass to Downing, but Brezovan can come off his line and gather.

  35. 59

Liverpool are now really calling the shots. Their passing is very sharp. Henderson gets to the byline on the right. However, his cross drifts out of play.

  36. That could be game over now. It was an excellent move from Liverpool involving Gerrard and Suarez. Downing then has plenty of space to cross low from the left and Carroll makes no mistake with a first-time finish when meeting the pass inside the penalty area on his left foot.

  37. 57

    GOAL CARROLL (3-1)!!!

  38. 56

It is good to see Navarro and Noone on the same pitch at Anfield. Both players are huge Liverpool fans.

  39. 55

Downing forces a save from Brezovan with a 20-yard effort. Liverpool are on the front foot and Henderson is the next to test the Brighton goalkeeper.

  40. 54

Brezovan has not had a great afternoon. This time he charges out of his area and is beaten to the ball by Suarez. The Liverpool No.7 then claims he is stopped by a handball from Calderon. Referee Marriner correctly waves play on.

  41. 53

Brighton, despite trailing, are still happy to take their time on the ball. But they are lacking in idea in attack.

  42. 52

Henderson very nearly deflects a Gerrard shot into the back of the net with a clever flick. The ball goes just wide. While the ball is out of play, Navarro is booked for an earlier foul on Gerrard.

  43. 51

Local lad Noone has made a good start since coming on at half-time. He is a lively influence in midfield.

  44. 50

Vokes breaks forward and collects a good reverse pass from Noone. But the former had run offside.

  45. 49

Liverpool have picked up where they left-off in the first half - on the attack. Suarez attempts to chip Brezovan without success.

  46. 48

Corner to Liverpool. It is played short and eventually to Johnson, who curls over the bar from the edge of the box on his weaker left foot.

  47. 47

Adam looks to spray the ball wide to the right, but he only hits the pass out of play.

  48. Brighton have sent on Craig Noone in place of Buckley. Noone built part of Gerrard's house. Buckley had only just returned from injury.

  49. WE'RE BACK: Brighton get the second half under way.

  50. There has been an intense battle between El-Abd and Carroll throughout the first half. The Liverpool striker has been less than happy that the Brighton defender seems to persistently be pulling his shirt.

  51. Skrtel's early header was cancelled out by LuaLua's long-ranger, but Bridcutt's own-goal just before half-time ensured Liverpool finished the first half with a 2-1 lead. It has been far from a classic, but the home side just about deserve the advantage after their threat from set-pieces.

  52. 45 + 1

    HALF-TIME: LIVERPOOL 2 BRIGHTON 1

  53. 45

ADDED TIME: There will be a minimum of one minute added time before the break.

  54. From the corner, Brighton make a real mess off the defending after Brezovan again opts to punch. Suarez's effort is cleared off the line, Johnson follows up with a header and, after that was again cleared off the line, Bridcutt is unfortunate to deflect the ball into his own net. Good fortune for Liverpool.

  55. 44

    OWN-GOAL BRIDCUTT (2-1)!!!

  56. 44

Liverpool move up field and win a free-kick on the left of Brighton's box after Calderon dived in on Downing. Gerrard curls in the free-kick and Brezovan tips over for a corner.

  57. 43

LuaLua is really testing Johnson. The Brighton wide-man beats the full-back with a step-over and shoots into the side-netting.

  58. 42

From the throw-in, Liverpool work a crossing opportunity. Carroll thinks he is blocked off by Greer when going for the header, but it is good defending.

  59. 41

Brighton keep the pressure on. However, El-Abd snatches at a half-volley and Liverpool break forward to win a throw-in deep in the Brighton box.

  60. 40

Gerrard is back to defend against Buckley and Reina then prevents the ball from going out for a corner.

  61. 39

Brighton are not in any rush and are understandably happy with how the match is going. They are passing the ball about their defence.

  62. 38

Downing has the chance to cross from the left, but it is an easy header clear for Dunk.

  63. 37

El-Abd prevents the ball from going out for a throw-in and plays a long back-pass to Brezovan. This has not been the most inspiring of games.

  64. 36

Adam gives away a foul on Barnes inside the Liverpool half. Brighton are frustrating their opponents, but need to do more going forward.

  65. 35

Carroll is having a real battle with El-Abd at every aerial ball.

  66. 34

Carroll wants a penalty after going down in the box. Replays show El-Abd has another chunk of the striker's shirt, but it looks as if Carroll loses his balance more than a foul.

  67. 33

Gerrard bursts into the Brighton box and Brezovan is fortunate to only give away a corner after a fumble. The set-piece is taken quickly and Brighton defend.

  68. 32

A wonderful cross from Gerrard finds Carroll. This time the striker has an unchallenged header, but he nods over the bar. That was a great chance, yet only grazed the roof of the net.

  69. 31

To make matters worse for Carroll, he then gives away a foul for a push on Greer at a high ball. It was a blatant shove, but Carroll is not happy.

  70. 30

Carroll is furious with referee Marriner for not spotting what he believes are constant fouls from the Brighton defenders whenever the ball goes into the air in the box.

  71. 29

A tricky dribble from Suarez beats two Brighton defenders and his toe-poked finish seems certain to have given Liverpool a 2-1 lead. But Calderon is back to clear off the line.

  72. 28

The set-piece is played wide to LuaLua, whose cross helped on its way and wide from Barnes.

  73. 27

Free-kick to Brighton inside the Liverpool half after Skrtel crashes into Barnes in an aerial challenge.

  74. 26

Again, Gerrard has acres of space in the centre circle. He plays the ball forward to Suarez, whose long-range effort swerves harmlessly wide.

  75. 25

Cynical trip from Navarro on Suarez when the Uruguayan was breaking forward. Adam takes the free-kick quickly.

  76. 23

Trademark stuff from Suarez as he wriggles free at the byline. The ball then finds Carroll around eight yards from goal, but the striker is off balance and cannot get a meaningful contact.

  77. 22

Downing may have wasted that earlier chance, but he is giving Calderon a difficult time.

  78. 21

Brighton are struggling in midfield. They are backing off when Liverpool have the ball and are then guilty of giving away possession when they do get a touch.

  79. 20

Let-off for Brighton, who plays a give and go with Suarez, but decides to cross from close range rather than shoot.

  80. 19

Brighton's travelling fans, who are filling the entirety of the lower tier of the Anfield Road stand, are now in excellent voice. And why not? It was a wonder-goal from LuaLua.

  81. What a goal! Brighton move the ball at the set-piece and set up long-range specialist Lualua for a stunning, rocketing low drive, which flies past a poor wall and beats Reina to sneak just inside the post. That was a sensational goal.

  82. 17

    GOAL LUALUA (1-1)!!!

  83. 16

Now it is a free-kick to Brighton approximately 30 yards from the Liverpool goal after Henderson tripped LuaLua.

  84. 15

Brighton are really struggling to create any chances in attacking areas, while they are giving Liverpool too much room to pass the ball. Henderson takes a quick free-kick and rolls the ball to Gerrard 30 yards from goal. The Liverpool captain drags his skidding effort wide.

  85. 14

Downing is proving a good outlet for Liverpool down the left. The winger's cross ricochets off the head of Dunk and the Brighton defender is fortunate to see the ball deflect to Brezovan.

  86. 13

Brighton star Buckley is as usual proving their brightest player. He cannot beat Enrique, though, and the Liverpool left-back is able to clear.

  87. 12

After a bit of pushing at that corner, Carroll is a target for Brighton fans. The 6,000 visiting supporters chant, 'what a waste of money' at the £35million striker.

  88. 11

Another corner to Liverpool on the left, which is won by Downing. This time, Brezovan punches clear Gerrard's deeper delivery.

  89. 10

Good work from Inigo Calderon down the right. His cross deflects off the head of Skrtel and Reina can claim.

  90. 9

Dalglish has to fetch the ball from the Liverpool dugout before his team can take a throw-in.

  91. 8

Excellent challenge from Lewis Dunk on Saurez when back-pedalling. The Brighton fans were booing Suarez, who is of course making his first appearance since last weekend's much publicised defeat to Manchester United.

  92. 7

Liverpool are prepared to drop off Brighton and let the visitors have the ball in their own half.

  93. Nightmare start for Brighton as Liverpool take a very early lead. Gerrard whips the corner into the near post with his right foot and Skrtel takes advantage of some flatfooted defending from Ashley Barnes to head past Brezovan. A very simple set-piece from which to concede.

  94. 5

    GOAL SKRTEL (1-0)!!!

  95. 5

Downing's cross-shot deflects off Greer and Brighton goalkeeper Peter Brezovan has to tip the ball over for a corner.

  96. 4

Buckley, though, breaks forward with the ball at his feet. The winger makes good progress, but is then stopped by Gerrard.

  97. 3

Brighton are looking to go long towards Vokes in the early stages.

  98. 2

Brighton captain Greer hits a long ball forward towards Sam Vokes. But, under pressure from Carragher, the striker cannot get his head on the ball.

  99. 1

Suarez runs over a long ball forward and twists in behind the Stoke defence looking for a pass from Carroll. But the latter's attempted pass is lacking direction.

  100. KICK-OFF: Liverpool get the game going for the chance to host Stoke in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

  101. 16.27

Here come the teams. Gerrard and Greer lead out Liverpool and Brighton, respectively, at Anfield. Flags are waving on The Kop. The home fans will have high expectations in what is an audition for next weekend's Carling Cup final.

  102. 16.24

Brighton have not won away against a top division side in the FA Cup since they beat Newcastle in 1986.

  103. 16.22

With less than 10 minutes to kick-off, here is a round-up of the team news. Striker Carroll returns to the Liverpool starting line-up. Carroll comes in to play alongside Suarez - who is making his first appearance in the competition - while veteran defender Jamie Carragher and midfielder Charlie Adam are also restored by Dalglish. Brighton make three changes, with fit-again winger Will Buckley, Kazenga LuaLua and Ada El-Abd coming in.

  104. 16.19

Poyet was the first Uruguayan to appear in an FA Cup final, Suarez will be hoping to become the second.

  105. 16.18

Brighton sit ninth in the Championship and have not lost in their last seven matches, but they were not at their best in Tuesday's draw with Millwall and Poyet has said nothing but a perfect performance will be enough at Anfield.

  106. 16.16

Liverpool's unbeaten cup record includes the win at the Amex in September, when goals from Craig Bellamy and Dirk Kuyt earned a 2-1 win. Dalglish is determined to end the club's wait for a trophy. The 2006 FA Cup was their last piece of silverware.

  107. 16.14

The draw for the quarter-final has just been made. The winner of this tie will earn a home game against Stoke.

  108. 16.13

Liverpool have gone out of the FA Cup to lower league opposition at Anfield in recent seasons - losing to Barnsley in 2008 and Reading in 2010. Could another shock be on the cards today? Kenny Dalglish's team have not lost at home this season and have not suffered defeat in any cup game in the current campaign.

  109. 16.11

Poyet has been talking up his managerial credentials ahead of this game. He has said he is ready for the Premier League and would jump at the chance to join Tottenham, if Harry Redknapp gets the England job. An upset this afternoon would boost his stock.

  111. 16.05

But Championship play-off hopefuls Brighton have history on their side. They can take spirit from their last FA Cup meeting with Liverpool when 21 years ago they defeated the Merseysiders in a fourth-round replay on the South Coast. Brighton also came out on top when the club's last met in the fifth round at Anfield, with the visitors going on to suffer heartbreak in the final when they lost a replay to United in 1983.

  112. 16.02

Liverpool have their eyes on a cup double this season. Having already knocked Brighton out en route to the Carling Cup final, they will again want to disappoint Gus Poyet's men in the bid to reach Wembley.
