Striker's penalty rescues point as match resumes

Tomer Hemed's penalty secured a point for Real Mallorca in their 2-2 draw at Granada as they moved into the top half of the table. The original fixture had been abandoned with 30 minutes remaining on 20th November when a linesman was struck by an umbrella which had been thrown from the crowd. The visitors had taken the lead in the original clash through Victor Casadesus, but Granada, who started the game second from bottom, fought back to take the lead with goals from Guilherme Siqueira and Carlos Martins. However, the game was abandoned when linesman Aguilar Rodriguez, who was lining up for a Mallorca corner, was hit by the umbrella which bloodied his cheek. It appeared to have been thrown by the home fans, who minutes earlier had been celebrating their side turning a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 advantage. As a result, referee Clos Gomez had no hesitation in leaving the field and taking his assistants, Rodriguez and Marco Martinez, with him, abandoning the game not long after.

    Rescheduled

The remaining 30 minutes of the match were played on Wednesday night and Mallorca soon equalised when they were awarded a penalty after just two minutes - the 65th minute overall. Granada defender Inigo Lopez fouled substitute striker Hemed, who had replaced Alfaro at the beginning of Wednesday night's restart, to give away a spot-kick. Hemed stepped up and fired the ball into the bottom-left corner to beat Granada goalkeeper Roberto and pull his side level. Lopez almost redeemed himself with five minutes left on the clock when his header from the middle of the area was caught by Dudu Aouate. Granada striker Franco Jara then blasted a long-range shot over the bar in injury time as the Andalucian side's hopes of claiming their fifth league win of the season ended.
