Taylor-made winner for Bees

Charlie Taylor was the hero as his last-gasp winner helped Barnet to a 2-1 win over Southport in the FA Cup first round.

Only six places separate Southport and Barnet in the pyramid but after a lacklustre first half the Bees showed their superiority as Clovis Kamdjo nodded them in front. But the Sandgrounders headed into the game on a nine-game unbeaten run and levelled when Steve Akrigg headed home, only for Taylor to spare Barnet's blushes with the final whistle looming. Barnet went ahead just before the hour mark as Kamdjo met a Mark Byrne cross from the left flank to head past Tony McMillan. The Bees thought they were two up a minute later but saw Sam Deering's effort ruled out for offside, and were dealt a double blow as Southport equalised with a bullet header from Akrigg, his first for the club. This year marks Southport's 130th anniversary but Taylor was in no mood to let them celebrate it with a cup run, meeting a Deering cross in the third minute of injury time to deliver the deadly blow.
