Image: Ben Arfa: Set to return for Magpies

Team news ahead of Tuesday night's Carling Cup third-round clash between Nottingham Forest and Newcastle at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest will be without Chris Cohen. The versatile 24-year-old laid injured on the ground as Jamie Ward embarked on a mazy run to score Derby's equalising goal in the clash between the East Midlands rivals at the City Ground on Saturday. Cohen was helped off before the game could be restarted, with the subsequent knee problem ruling him out of the tie against the Premier League club. Forest are still assessing the injury and do not yet know the length of time that Cohen will be unavailable. He joins midfielders Paul Anderson (hamstring) and George Boateng (ankle) on the sidelines, while Dexter Blackstock and Garath McCleary remain long-term absentees. After seeing his side lose 2-1 to Derby, despite the visitors playing almost the entire match with 10 men following the second-minute sending off of goalkeeper Frank Fielding, manager Steve McClaren is considering making changes to his starting line up. Goalkeeper Paul Smith could be handed a rare start while defenders Brendan Moloney and Joel Lynch and forwards Lewis McGugan and Robbie Findley could also come into contention. Newcastle winger Hatem Ben Arfa will make his first competitive appearance for the Magpies since October 3 when he suffered a double leg fracture at Manchester City. The Frenchman has missed the start of the new campaign with an ankle problem picked up on the club's pre-season trip to the United States. Dan Gosling could also be involved if he shakes off a groin problem, but full-back Davide Santon will miss out after having fluid drained from his injured knee. Alan Smith (hamstring), Haris Vuckic (broken hand), Mehdi Abeid (knee) and Mike Williamson (broken arm) remain on the casualty list. Newcastle (from): Krul, Elliot, Harper, Simpson, R.
