  1. And that in fact is it! 2-1 Australia Darcy Blake's late goal brought Wales to life but the hosts could not come back from a first-half Cahill strike and Kruse finish on the hour mark. Speed will take some positives from how they finished the game, but the visitors were by far the more clinical with their chances.

  2. 90+3

Unfortunately for Wales, Bale gets too much on a deep cross and sees the ball sail out for a goalkick after great play by the hosts. That will most likely be the final action of this game... or will it?!

  3. 90+2

Jedinak gets straight into the action with a header from an inswinging corner but he can't direct it goalwards.

  4. 90+2

    McDonald goes off for Jedinak.

  5. 90+1

Three minutes of time to be added on...

  6. 90

Bale cut inside on to his favoured left foot, the Welshman goes for the thunderbolt but Spiranovic throws his head in the way to block. The ball was swerving all over the place from that strike, superb stuff.

  7. 89

Wales have come to life following Darcy Blake's header!

  8. 88

With the amount of ball Bellamy and Bale have had in the last couple of minutes, you have to ask why they've not been used more in this match.

  9. 87

This is so much better from Wales, the homes fans I'm sure are hoping it's not too late.

  10. 87

Great play from Bellamy, he touches the ball back to Bale on the right who curls in an inviting cross and Spiranovic very nearly heads it into his own net.

  11. 86

Hint of a handball from Spiranovic in the box as he tussles with Morison for the ball. Nothing given.

  12. 85

Wales are piling on the pressure now, fantastic end to this friendly!

  13. 84

Is it too late to salvage an unlikely draw here? Doubt Bellamy will see it that way, game on!

  14. 83

And Wales are back in this! Could make for an interesting end to this friendly after Australia looked to have this match all but wrapped up!

  15. 82

GOAL WALES!!! Blake heads the ball home at the far stick from Bale's searching corner. Good finish!

  16. 81

Finally Wales get their passing game together and seemingly ripped Australia apart with great urgency. It goes out for a corner.

  17. 80

It's looking all a bit too comfortable for Australia in these final moments.

  18. 79

Neill, as calm as you like, passes the ball back to his keeper with Morison threatening trying to latch on to a decent throughball.

  19. 78

Australia have played like a well-oiled machine tonight, it's been a good solid display by the visitors.

  20. 77

The diagonal ball finds Bale on the right wing, his first touch is to chest it into the box but the Welshman can't bring it down and Schwarzer collects.

  21. 76

Wales are definitely enjoying their best spell of the game right now.

  22. 75

Bellamy again screams at the ref for an over-enthusiastic challenge on Kruse. He's still chatting to the ref about it, good decision for me by the man in the middle.

  23. 74

Williams sends a terrific ball towards Bellamy down the left, he tries to take a touch before cutting the ball back but it's too heavy and goes out for a goalkick.

  24. 73

Neill hasn't really put a foot wrong tonight, he's frustrating the Welsh contingent.

  25. 72

Bale travels with the ball, Morison sets the ball up for Bellamy - he could've taken it first time but took a touch allowing Australia to block his shot from 18-yards out.

  26. 71

McKay loses possession in a promising area and Ledley gets on to it, releasing Bale down the left.

  27. 70

Cahill comes off for Troisi. For Wales Vaughan makes way for Joe Allen.

  28. 70

Good experienced defending from Neill as he chests back a dangerous cross from the right into his grateful keeper's arms.

  29. 69

Wales have probably ended up with more questions than answers in this game so far, they need to be more clinical and direct in possession.

  30. 68

Australia will be looking to ring the changes soon I think with the way this game's going.

  31. 67

Ledley wildly strikes an effort towards goal - except the goal isn't quite the few yards wide that he placed that shot. Good spell by Wales nonetheless.

  32. 66

Wales are looking a bit more positive now and enjoying a good spell of possession.

  33. 65

Kruse and Williams, the two substitutes, combine well and it requires an Ashley Williams block to halt play as Kruse danced towards the byline unchallenged.

  34. 65

Kilkenny sees his shot deflected after a Blake mistake. Good break from the away side.

  35. 64

Collison is linking up well with Bellamy, the West Ham midfielder puts in a lovely little ball to the Man City forward who cuts it back but Australia clear in the box.

  36. 63

It's comfortable for Australia at the moment, they certainly are the sharper of the two currently.

  37. 62

Steve Morison comes on for Earnshaw, Gunter goes off for Adam Matthews as the changes come in for Wales.

  38. 61

Wales seriously need to step up a gear now if they are to get back into this one, friendly or no friendly!

  39. 60

GOAL AUSTRALIA!!! Cahill releases McDonald down the right, the forward cuts the ball back into the box and all Hennessey can do is parry it into the feet of Kruse. Great play from Australia, carved open Wales in that attack.

  40. 59

McKay has a decent left foot, his general play has been very tidy tonight. He just needs to be more clinical with his set-pieces.

  41. 58

Bale evades the challenge of Spiranovic but his touch is a little too heavy down this right side and goes out for a goalkick - the Spurs winger was away there!

  42. 57

Terrible free-kick from Bale - seems he was undecided as to whether to cross the ball or go for the audacious strike, in the end he sends it into row z.

  43. 56

Cynical foul by Zullo on Bale as the Welshman gets into his full stride and glides past the Australian. Yellow card.

  44. 56

Kruse looks lively down the right wing, he's always looking to cross into the box.

  45. 55

Williams goes down following an aerial challenge with Earnshaw - he's off for some treatment... that being magic water in the face.

  46. 54

Blake gets straight into the game... with a follow in his own half. Australia haven't made the most of their central positions they've been enjoying from these set-pieces - and once again the cross is too long for Cahill to deal with.

  47. 53

Kruse stands up a delightfully-weighted pass which Wales struggle to cope with but eventually clear after many a deflection in the box following McKay's 18-yard volley.

  48. 52

Promising start for Wales in this 45, let's see if they can make some possession count.

  49. 50

Vaughan does well to win a hospital pass in the middle, Collison retrieves it on the edge of the box from Gunter's throughball, the West Ham man jinks past his markers but can't quite curl his effort enough to sneak into the far corner. Great effort though. Good to see him back in action.

  50. 49

Will be good to see if Williams has the same impact as Wilkshire did in that first-half down Australia's right.

  51. 48

Wales go on the attack and win a corner which Schwarzer just about clears with a lunging punch.

  52. 47

Australia are by far the sharper of the two sides in this encounter. Time for Bellamy and Earnshaw to start pumping some urgency into the Welsh contingent.

  53. 46

And we're back on, Wales need to start creating more chances if they are to bring this game back.

  54. Couple of subs to tell you about before the second-half kicks-off, Collison and Blake are on for Ramsey and Gabbidon. Australia are making changes too Williams is on for Wilkshire and Emerton goes off for Kruse.

  55. Right as I've got a few mins, I'll get back to putting up some of your feedback, here goes...

  56. Australia go into the interval infront following a great move by the visitors which resulted in Wilkshire crossing inch-perfectly for Cahill to volley home. Wilkshire had earlier seen a powerful strike smash Hennessey's near-post as Wales have struggled to get into the game. Bale may feel he had a penalty shout but appeared to go down far too easily in the box under Emerton's challenge. 1-0 Australia

  57. 45+1

Good finish to the half by Australia as the referee blows the final whistle.

  58. 45

Wales go straight on the attack following that opener from Cahill, but can't quite find a decent gap to capitalise.

  59. 44

GOAL AUSTRALIA!!! Great volley from Cahill, Wilkshire is given far too much space down the right - he picks out the right pass and the Everton hitman turns and strikes the ball past Hennessey.

  60. 43

Bale goes down under Emerton's challenge in the box after great work from Ledley, referee waves play on. Appears he went down far too easily there.

  61. 42

Spiranovic can't quite direct his header goalwards from the resulting free-kick from McKay.

  62. 41

Bellamy hassles Australia, so much so he gets a little giddy and brings down Kilkenny with a rash challenge.

  63. 40

Good move from Wales, the long ball finally does work (commentator's curse!) and after a good touch from Bale to bring the ball down on the edge of the box, he cuts into the middle and lays it off to Earnshaw but the Australia block before the striker can get a clean shot on goal.

  64. 39

Too many long balls for my liking in this game! Wales are strong in possession but then seem to want to force play with the long ball - Neill's eating those up for breakfast... a late breakfast nonetheless...

  65. 38

Emerton gives away a free-kick after the visitors were in a promising position. That gives Wales chance to settle back on to the ball.

  66. 37

Australia seem galvanized by that Wilkshire strike, they're looking a bit more penetrating and direct with their play now.

  67. 36

Very strong challenge from Spiranovic to sneak the ball from Earnshaw's toes after a very-nearly brilliant one-two with Bellamy on the right.

  68. 35

Great effort from Wilkshire, the former Boro man surged forward without a challenge - he was looking for players and when nothing was on, unleashed a cracking strike from the edge of the box smashing Hennessey's left-hand post! Great strike!

  69. 35

Bellamy's looking hungry tonight, very energetic as we come to expect from the forward.

  70. 34

Everytime Bale gets the ball he's surrounded by three Australian players!

  71. 33

McKay fails to connect cleanly with the ball on the edge of the box and snatches at a shot - sending it high and wide over the bar.

  72. 32

There's not enough direction on Wilkshire's ball for Cahill to fully connect as a half-chance goes begging for the visitors.

  73. 31

Bellamy gets a telling off for a late challenge with a Bellamy-esque 'thank you' to the referee following that decision...

  74. 30

Superb reverse pass from Cahill to find Emerton down the right, he causes a bit of danger in the box from his grass-cutting cross but Hennessey collects well.

  75. 29

Awkward clearance for Spiranovic after a threatening run and ball from the right by Bellamy, great first touch from the Welshman and decent ball into the box but well defended.

  76. 28

Hennessey reads a Wilkshire pass down the right well and puts off the advancing Emerton to win the goalkick. Good vision from the Wolves number one there.

  77. 27

Cahill hacks down Vaughan in the Wales half for a free-kick.

  78. 26

Wilkshire's tidy on the ball, has probably seen the majority of it so far out of both sets of players.

  79. 25

Earnshaw is anonymous at the moment - not really his fault however, he needs more link-up play.

  80. 24

Australia look decent on the ball... just as I write that Emerton lunges for a hopeful pass but can't reach it as it goes for a throw-in deep into Wales' half.

  81. 23

There's not a lot of movement in the Wales side, Bellamy is desperate for the ball but without the service there's very little he can do at the moment.

  82. 22

A lot better from Wales, Ramsey finds Bellamy who turns to shoot but sees his powerful effort deflected for a corner. Bale's resulting set-piece has far too much pace behind it and goes out.

  83. 21

Bale whips in a decent corner but Schwarzer is experienced enough to grasp that one out of the air and set Australia on their way.

  84. 20

Shocking finish from Valeri, Ramsey gets picked off in the middle and the midfielder surges forward with the ball - real opportunity with players either side of him however he opted to shoot and completely scuffed his effort well wide.

  85. 20

Gunter manages to get enough on Wilkshire's testing free-kick to divert away the danger from Hennessey's goal.

  86. 19

Gabbidon tries to recover his heavy touch but instead hauls down his player for an Australia free-kick in a promising position 25ish yards out.

  87. 18

Birmingham fans might also remember Kilkenny who is featuring for Australia tonight, he sees his first touch of the ball to find Emerton.

  88. 17

Bellamy's already voicing his frustration at not seeing enough of the ball, he's dropping deep but there's very little for the shy and retiring marksman.

  89. 16

It's all a little sloppy at the moment as Emerton gifts a free-kick to Wales for a silly challenge on the half-way line.

  90. 15

Vaughan mis-times a challenge in the centre of the park on McDonald giving away a free-kick.

  91. 14

Hennessey gets his first real touch on the ball and punts it upfield for a Wales attack.

  92. 13

Australia win the first free-kick of the game, around 40 yards out and pretty central. McKay searches for a player at the far post but Cahill had trouble getting around his defender and the ball goes out for a goalkick.

  93. 12

Cahill appears to be dropping deep in a playmaker role, leaving McDonald as the lone man upfront. Could be a thankless task if Australia don't create enough chances.

  94. 11

Good skill from Spiranovic to evade the attentions of Bellamy and release the ball down the left flank.

  95. 11

Ramsay's finding plenty of space in the heart of the Welsh midfield, bit of a game of chess at the moment with both sides trying to pick out killer passes and sizing up their competition.

  96. 10

Sunderland fans will be looking on contently to see tonight's fortunes of their new signing Vaughan from Blackpool, very under-rated midfielder in my eyes.

  97. 9

This is a hugely experienced Australian side, will be interesting to see if Speed's mix of youngsters and 'veterans' can cope.

  98. 8

McDonald is pressuring Wales' back four well so far, they'll need that mentality throughout because it seems like Wales are quite happy to knock the ball around in defence and look for gaps.

  99. 7

Luke Wikshire's 60th cap tonight, great achievement. I'm sure a lot of Middlesbrough fans will remember him.

  100. 6

Spiranovic can't quite get to the ball at the near-post and wins another corner which Wales eventually clear.

  101. 6

First corner of the game is awarded to Australia. With Cahill's threat in the air, will Wales be able to contain the Toffees man?

  102. 5

Wales are already settling down play, they look confident at the back and seem willing to keep possession.

  103. 4

Unlucky there after a great run from Taylor, he was spotted by Bale but the winger couldn't get to it before it rolled out of touch.

  104. 3

Neill, without a club at the moment, tonight could be a great 'shop window' for the ex West Ham and Blackburn man.

  105. 2

Great tackle from Bale down the left flank on Wilkshire as Australia look to press.

  106. 1

And tonight's game gets underway, looking forward to this one!

  107. Australia: Schwarzer, Zullo, Spiranovic, Neill, Wilkshire, Emerton, Kilkenny, Valeri, McKay, Cahill, McDonald.

  108. Wales: Hennessey, Taylor, Williams, Gabbidon, Gunter, Vaughan, Ramsay (c), Ledley, Bellamy, Earnshaw, Bale.

  109. Here go tonight's national anthems sung by Miss Wales...

  110. Before kick-off Gary Speed has spoken highly of tonight's opponents and expects nothing less than a "tough test". Let's hope there's plenty of goals in this one.

  111. Australia have welcomed Everton midfielder Tim Cahill back into their line-up for the first time since their Asian Cup final defeat to Japan in January. Cahill is set to partner Scott McDonald, who is yet to score in 24 appearances for his country, in attack.

  112. Gareth Bale will make his first Wales start since October as coach Gary Speed had the luxury of selecting a near full-strength starting line-up for tonight's friendly. Speed's fledgling reign as Wales boss has been undermined by under-strength squads but, apart from James Collins, he has been able to call on his major players for the first senior meeting between the nations. That means Bale, Craig Bellamy and Rob Earnshaw are all included. Aaron Ramsey skippers the team in the heart of midfield in Wales' last warm-up before their Euro 2012 qualifiers against Montenegro and England next month.

  113. Fancy a flutter? Latest odds are Wales win 17/10, draw 23/10, Australia win 13/8

  114. The teams and news will be up shortly so in the meantime send me your score predictions, goalscorers etc... you know the drill!
