Nikki Bull was the hero as Wycombe beat Colchester 5-4 in a shoot-out after a 3-3 draw in the Carling Cup first round.

Bull saved from Michael Rose before Ben Harding scored Wanderers' fifth from the spot to seal a 5-4 shoot-out win.

Wycombe raced into a two-goal lead through strikes from Scott Donnelly and Joel Grant. But Colchester hit back courtesy of Kayode Odejayi and Ian Henderson to go into the break level.

Bull denied Henderson and substitute Steven Gillespie in quick succession towards the end of regulation time.

Gillespie got the better of Bull from the penalty spot to put Colchester ahead for the first time after Anthony Wordsworth fouled Andy Sandell.

Stuart Beavon equalised with a 25-yard cracker in the 105th minute before Bull denied Henderson once again to send the tie into a penalty shoot out.
