Wycombe boss Gary Waddock was handed the perfect birthday present as his side won 4-1 at Bury to boost their survival bid.

Stuart Beavon's hat-trick and a further strike from Paul Hayes ensured Waddock celebrated his 50th birthday in style and handed Bury their third straight defeat. The Chairboys were ahead inside four minutes when Beavon turned sharply to fire into the roof of the net from Marvin McCoy's cross. Bury pulled level when Shaun Harrad scored a bullet header from Giles Coke's corner on his return from a loan spell at Rotherham. But Wycombe restored their lead a minute later, Hayes smashing home after Ben Strevens had helped on McCoy's cross. Coke missed a second-half penalty for Bury, hitting a post after substitute Grant Basey had felled Mark Hughes, while Nikki Bull made a fantastic double save to deny David Worrall. Then came heartbreak for Bury as Beavon made it 3-1 with the help of a wicked deflection. The Wycombe striker sealing his hat-trick with a stunning volley to cap off a counter-attack, taking his tally to 20 for the season.
