Rhodes: Opened the scoring

Rhodes: Opened the scoring

Huddersfield extended their unbeaten league run to eight games but had to settle for a 1-1 draw against an inspired Tranmere.

All the early pressure came from Rovers but they wasted a great opportunity to go ahead when Mustafa Tiryaki missed the target from eight yards out after a defensive error in the 14th minute. Soon afterwards Martin Devaney fired inches wide from Tiryaki's cross after a swift counter-attack.

Lucas Akins was next to go close for the Merseysiders and the visitors did not manage a single noteworthy shot on the home goal in a below-par first-half showing.

But Huddersfield were a changed force after the break. Sean Morrison headed just wide from a corner before Jordan Rhodes fired them ahead from a Danny Cadamarteri pass in the 49th minute.

Tranmere responded superbly and were level two minutes later as Adam McGurk headed in a Devaney cross.

Town goalkeeper Ian Bennett almost turned a James Wallace shot into his own net in the 77th minute and substitutes Lateef Elford-Alliyu and Ryan Brunt went agonisingly close for the home side in the dying minutes.
